The Los Angeles City College (LACC) is hiring a Limited 1 Year Computer Science Instructor. The assignment begins at Los Angeles City College (LACC) in Spring 2027.

Founded in 1929, LACC is the oldest of the nine colleges that make up the LACCD, the world's largest community college district. The campus is in the heart of Los Angeles, minutes from Hollywood and Downtown, and conveniently adjacent to major freeway arteries and public transportation, including the MTA and Metro. LACC is culturally rich, with one of the most ethnically, ideologically and age-diverse student bodies in the country. It is this diversity that drives LACC's long tradition of innovation and responsiveness to the changing needs of the times and its more than 15,000 students. Our programs range from serving traditional transfer students to career training, adult career advancement, cultural integration, and personal enrichment. Primary teaching responsibility:
Teach a broad range of Computer Science and Computer Information Systems courses, potentially including:

• Data Structures
• Computer Architecture & Organization
• Programming Languages
• Data Science & Analytics
• Databases
• Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
• Cloud Computing

Assignments can include dual-enrollment courses at high schools or middle schools, off-site locations, evening/weekend classes, and face-to-face, online, or hybrid instruction.

Specific workload requirements

• 30 units of teaching per academic year
• 15 teaching hours per semester during the 10-month academic year
• 5.5 hours/week of scheduled office hours
• At least 5 hours/week of campus responsibilities, such as Senate, curriculum, and department activities

Other duties

The position also includes:

• Assessing student performance and maintaining records
• Advising and mentoring students
• Supporting certificate completion and student success
• Developing and assessing Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
• Participating in Program Review and accreditation activities
• Professional development
• Developing/updating curriculum, including online and hybrid courses
• Supporting program growth, enrollment, retention, and student success
• Developing new curriculum aligned with industry needs
• Participating in grant-writing activities, including Strong Workforce and Perkins grants
• Performing departmental duties assigned by the department chair

Minimum Qualifications:

* Master's degree in computer science or computer engineering; OR

* Bachelor's degree in either of the above AND Master's in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting, or engineering; OR

* Bachelor's degree in engineering AND Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration; OR

* Bachelor's degree in mathematics AND Master's degree in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration; OR

* Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND Master's in information science, computer information systems, or information systems;

* OR the equivalent.

* A sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.



ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT COVID 19 VACCINATION

Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated and complete a baseline test or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

* Master or Doctorate degree in Computer Science.

* Experience teaching students in a relevant discipline at a Community College or University level.

* Experience using learning management systems and remote teaching tools such as Canvas and Zoom.

* Professional work or teaching experience relating to emerging technologies such as Data Science & Analytics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Cloud Computing.

* Ability to work effectively in promoting our programs to the students, community, local high schools, and industry.

* Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and work collegially and collaboratively within the department and the college.

* Experience working with students of varying academic preparation and learning styles.

* Strong understanding and experience implementing culturally sustaining pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging African American, Latinx and historically underrepresented and underserved populations.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The current starting range is from $76,960 to $143,000 for the 10-month academic year depending on education and experience. The doctoral differential is $4,870 per academic year. The District provides an excellent benefit package including medical, vision, dental, and life insurance for the employee and eligible dependents.
