The Security Guard functions as a team member of the Campus Police Department. This position provides important services to our staff, students and members of the community. Our security guards are tasked with providing and maintaining campus security, and patrolling and safeguarding campus property, buildings and grounds. In addition to working as part of a team and supporting Police Officers, campus security guards also work independently to monitor the campus. Salary Schedule:Range 1312 months/year

This is a partially categorically funded assignment contingent upon year-to-year funding.
General Description:
Under supervision of Chief Law Enforcement Officer, provides and maintains campus security; patrols and safeguards campus property, buildings and grounds.
(May be assigned to Merced or Los Banos Campus; Rotating Shifts Required)
Examples of Duties
Essential Functions:
- Patrols campus buildings and grounds to prevent vandalism and theft
- Installs parking dispenser tickets, collects and records money from dispensers
- Issue citations for parking violations
- Answers security alarm alerts and notifies appropriate personnel or agencies of any occurrence activity which is detrimental to the welfare of individuals or college property
- Prepares written reports for non-criminal activities
- Must be able to walk and be on feet at least five hours per shift
- Other related duties as assigned

- Methods and techniques to improve security
Ability to:
- Analyze situations and exercise good judgment with a minimum of supervision
- Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records and reports
- Confront people on security matters without unnecessary alienation
- Capacity to stand and walk for long periods of time in various types of weather
- Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture and create a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment. In conducting their duties, staff members shall respect and acknowledge the diversity of students and colleagues.
Typical Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education/Training/Experience:
- High school diploma OR GED
OR - The equivalent education and experience
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
License or Certificate
- Possession of valid California driver's license.

Interview Information:
Those applicants deemed highly qualified for the position will be invited to appear for oral interviews before a screening committee. A limited number of candidates will be invited to interviews. Interviews will be scheduled onsite.
Interviews are tentatively scheduled for September 22, 2026 with final interviews scheduled for September 28, 2026.
