Position Summary Information
Los Angeles Mission College seeks a full-time tenure track Accounting Instructor who is experienced in teaching a variety of courses within the accounting discipline, including introductory financial and managerial accounting. Interested individuals who meet the minimum qualifications and possess the required experience are invited to apply. The assignment is to begin for the Fall 2026 semester.
Introduction
Los Angeles Mission College (LAMC) is a two-year community college that serves more than 11,000 students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. The college is one of nine in the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD). Founded in 1975, LAMC is in the scenic foothill community of Sylmar and has strong historical ties to the neighboring communities of San Fernando, Pacoima, Mission Hills, North Hills, Panorama City and Granada Hills. In recent years, the institution's enrollment base has expanded to include many of the communities throughout the greater San Fernando Valley, as well as Canyon Country and Santa Clarita. The college provides excellent transfer, basic skills, transitional, and career education programs. Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will provide classroom instruction consisting of in-person and off campus, high school dual enrollment courses. In addition the successful applicant will develop career development activities, host Advisory Committee meetings, and otherwise provide a range of services for the Accounting program and its students. Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Be responsible for providing instruction on a wide range of Accounting courses including but not limited to financial, managerial, computerized and tax accounting as well as other business disciplines as assigned;
- Teach at least 15 standard hours per semester of assigned courses in accordance with course outlines of record and syllabi. Opportunities may exist for summer and winter intersession teaching. The probationary instructor will teach various assignments depending on expertise and department need;
- Teaching assignments may include off-campus courses such as high school dual enrollment, justice-involved facility offerings, satellite and/or outreach class sites, or other non-traditional courses in keeping with community college philosophy, program standards and parameters;
- Assignments may consist of day, evening and/or weekend classes to be taught in-person, and may include off campus, high school dual enrollment, hybrid and online courses;
- Employ technology and innovative strategies to improve learning and student success;
- Maintain established office hours and be otherwise available to assist students outside of the classroom;
- Develop and maintain current course syllabi and outlines; prepare lecture/lab and class materials and participate in the selection of textbooks and other instructional materials/equipment;
- Participate in the development of curriculum, pathways, and programs that lead to employment, degrees, certificates and transfer;
- Collaborate with local and regional consortiums and business community partners to improve the programs leading to student employment or transfer;
- Advise students regarding their academic needs and refer them for additional assistance as needed;
- Develop and/or utilize a variety of instructional strategies, techniques and delivery methods designed to meet the individual learning styles of students;
- Participate in periodic advisory meetings that aid faculty in aligning programs and pathways with industry needs;
- Commitment to the community college goals and objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests;
- Work collegially in an academic environment;
- Participate in department and campus committees and activities;
- Promote the College and the program and assist in recruiting and marketing the program to prospective students and outside entities;
- Participate in professional development activities closely related to the assignment;
- Foster a safe and civil learning environment;
- Perform other academic duties as assigned by Dept. Chairperson.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in accountancy or business administration with accounting concentration; OR
- Bachelor's degree in business with accounting emphasis or business administration with accounting emphasis or economics with an accounting emphasis AND Master's degree in business, business administration, business education, economics, taxation, finance OR
- The equivalent.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disabilities, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
NOTE: A bachelor's degree in accountancy or business administration with accounting concentration, with a CPA license is an alternative qualification for this discipline.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Licensed as a Certified Public Accountant;
- Demonstrated awareness and experience working with historically underrepresented students and non-traditional students;
- College level teaching experience;
- Past work experience in a professional level Accounting position;
- Demonstrated use of learning management systems; Canvas is preferred;
- Experience with assessment of student learning (e.g., Student Learning Outcomes);
- Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different levels of students' ability and learning styles and adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different cultures and ethnic groups;
- Demonstrated commitment to professional excellence, continuous growth and demonstrated participation in consistent professional development activities;
- Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with learning theories, both pedagogical and andragogical;
- Ability to effectively integrate technological developments affecting the discipline into course content;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, both internally and external;
- Ability to work with other disciplines to create an integrated learning environment;
- Ability to integrate current and emerging instructional delivery technologies into the learning process to enhance teaching and the educational experience;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills.
Salary and Benefits:

Evaluation Procedures:
- A college selection committee will review all completed and approved applications received, and only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
- Selected candidates will be invited for an interview following the committee screening. The interview will include a teaching demonstration.
- Based upon the committee recommendation, selected candidates will be invited for an interview following the committee screening. The finalists will be invited to interview with the president and vice president, who will make the final selection.
