LOCATION
Palo Verde College is located in the City of Blythe at one of the busiest entrance points to California. The college is located in a desert oasis adjacent to the beautiful Colorado River and the Palo Verde Valley. Blythe, and the fertile Palo Verde Valley, is primarily a farming and ranching area. Boating, fishing and hunting attract many tourists. The Palo Verde Valley is centrally located between Phoenix and Los Angeles, Las Vegas and the Mexican border. The valley's great climate, with more than 350 days of sunshine and mild winters, attracts thousands of winter visitors every year.
NATURE OF THE POSITION
Under the direction of the assigned administrator, the Instructional Services Technician I provides specialized clerical and technical support across a variety of instructional services areas and outreach efforts, and creates a welcoming inclusive environment, and provides front-line assistance to students, faculty, and the public. This position requires the use of initiative and independent judgment within procedural and policy limits, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across departments to support equitable student success.
Examples of Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides support to assigned Instructional Services programs and services, assisting in the coordination of the day-to-day operations and workflow of the department.
- Answers, screens, and routes incoming calls in assigned area for all staff and faculty employees.
- Provides accurate information to employees, students and the public as requested.
- Understands functions of other offices and makes appropriate referrals.
- Performs clerical work such as data entry, typing, proofreading, filing, and digitally archiving documents.
- Collects and distributes instructional materials as assigned.
- Assists with organizing, verifying, filing and digitally archiving documents.
- Assists students with navigating college platforms and completing forms or applications.
- Train and mentor student workers' in assigned service areas.
- Assists with the collection of data, organization,.
- Assists with the preparation of communication pieces and electronic correspondence to students.
- Maintains confidentiality of records and complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.
- Travel to various education sites such as, but not limited to, prison institutions.
- Processes a variety of documents and information related to enrollment and the maintenance of student permanent records.
- Maintains calendars for department staff and programs, ensuring timely updates and communication of change.
- Coordinates all travel for assigned area; creates department purchase requisitions.
- Exhibits an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to support an inclusive learning environment.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility principles in all aspects of job performances; actively promotes and creates a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Educational/Experience Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in the utilization of standard office productivity software programs (e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), personal computers, and the internet.
- Knowledge of record-keeping techniques.
- Ability to perform duties requiring attention to detail.
- Ability to work under time constraints.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to type 40 wpm.
- Passage of the Districts clerical skills tests.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, ethnic, racial, age, national origin, religious, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, and socio- economic backgrounds of students.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's degree from an accredited institution.
- Prior experience working at a Community College.
- Knowledge of California Education Code, Title 5, Chancellor's Office administrative procedures, State and/or Federal law regulations, and other legal parameters that affect policies and practices of the assigned department.

CLASSIFICATION/SALARY
- This is a 12-month full time classified position. May include evening and weekend duty.
- Row 5 on the classified salary schedule.
