The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) announces an opening for Dean of Student Services at East Los Angeles College (ELAC). ELAC is seeking a student-centered leader focused on growing, developing, and aligning educational programming in response to student and community needs, as well as supporting our college's commitment to educating the more than 28,000 racially and socioeconomically diverse students. ELAC is the largest of nine colleges within LACCD that serves the East Los Angeles, Southeast Los Angeles, San Gabriel Valley, and Montebello areas through their Monterey Park Campus, South Gate Campus, and Rosemead Center.

Established in 1945, ELAC is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). ELAC is dedicated to providing the highest quality of transfer, workforce, noncredit, and community service programs. JOB DESCRIPTION

The Dean of Student Services is responsible for providing administrative leadership and oversight of Admissions and Records, First-Year Experience, College Promise, College Completion Center, Fresh Success, and Ombudsperson. Under the supervision of the Vice President of Student Services, the Dean of Student Services directs the planning, organizing, expanding, and implementation of successful First-Year student recruitment with wrap around services from entry to completion for ELAC. The Dean is responsible for all aspects of the First-Year Program through College Completion; including academic programs to foster an engaging and inclusive community for students. The Dean is also charged with ensuring that the college delivers on its primary mission to serve as a comprehensive community college in providing educational, community, and student services, to improve the quality of life for all the residents in the college service area. In addition, the responsibility for ensuring that programs and services under their leadership meets the needs of a diverse student population, promotes equitable outcomes, complies with all state and federal regulations. Additionally, complies with the budget goals of the college and the district; and promotes the mission and vision of the college and district.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervision and oversight of Admissions and Records, First-Year Experience, College Promise, and College Completion Center.

  • Serve as Ombudsperson for the campus.

  • Support with student discipline and serve on the Behavior Intervention Team (BIT).

  • Oversee the successful onboarding and retention of students.

  • Coordinate with campus partners to assist first generation college students, transfer students, and other special populations; inform and enhance resources and services in support of student learning and engagement.

  • Develop relationships with all student services departments, academic affairs, adult education, and career technical departments/units.

  • Provide faculty with California College Promise program orientation and guidelines.

  • Analyze data and develop processes to improve persistence, retention, and student success.

  • Work evenings, weekends, and special events.

  • Promote student success through guided pathways and other student-centered frameworks.

  • Represent the Vice President of Student Services Division as requested.

  • Lead the Program Review Process for the respective areas.

  • Participate in community-based activities, advisory committees, and other collaborative endeavors as determined by the Vice President of Student Services.

  • Monitor and evaluate the success of college completion strategies in conjunction with the Deans of Student Services.

  • Coordinate wraparound services in partnership with Counseling, Financial Aid, Admissions and Records, and external agencies.

  • Serve on accreditation, shared governance and/or college committees as assigned.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of experience in leading an Admissions and Records Office Experience with budget development, implementation, and management.

  • Recruitment, retention, and/or admissions experience.

  • Proven experience in supporting students from onboarding through completion.

  • Knowledge of student success case management systems.

  • Demonstrated experience in working with local feeder institutions and community-based organizations.

  • Leadership experience in planning, organizing, and implementing student services or comparable programs.

  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting, articulating, and implementing a variety of regulations, policies and procedures related to student services programs in California.

  • Knowledge and experience in the implementation of Federal and State programs.

  • Demonstrated experience in working with special populations such as K-12 Students, Undocumented Students, EOPS, Students with Disabilities, Foster Youth, and populations.

  • Able to create and implement a diverse and culturally responsive environment, programs, and activities to enhance students access to equitable resources and services.

  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and students.

  • Experience in grant writing and management.

  • Personal characteristics necessary for working with students, employees and the public in an administrative capacity, using good judgment, tact, team spirit, and the ability to cooperate with co-workers.

  • Ability to work in a timely and effective manner with faculty, staff and administration.

  • Excellent computer skills with experience in database system management and data analysis.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and demonstrated ability to produce accurate reports/documents.

  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Applicants must meet minimum requirements as an administrator by:
    • A Master's degree or equivalent (from an accredited college or university); AND
    • Completion of one year of full-time formal training, internship or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment; AND
    • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

    GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

    A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant's expense prior to employment.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS:

    The LACCD determines placement on the pay scale depending on verified education and employment history. Current starting annual salary range is from: $175,836 - $206,448. The doctoral differential is $6,288 per academic year.
