Los Angeles Southwest College (LASC) is located in southwest, Los Angeles, approximately 20 minutes south of downtown Los Angeles, and 15 minutes east of the Pacific Ocean. Los Angeles Southwest College is the hub of diverse cultural and educational activity in the southwest Los Angeles area. The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) announces a full-time, tenure-track Registered Nursing Position, focusing on Advanced Medical-Surgical Nursing at LASC. The position is scheduled to begin Spring 2026. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
- Master's degree in nursing; OR
- Bachelor's degree in nursing AND Master's in health education or health science; OR
- the equivalent; OR
- The minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing which requires at least one year of experience as an registered nurse providing direct patient care within the last five years. Also, completion of at least one year of experience teaching courses related to nursing or a course which includes practice in teaching nursing, AND a current California RN License by start of employment.
- Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty, staff and students.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT
A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant's expense prior to employment.
Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated and complete a baseline test or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
1. A strong background in critical care and medical- surgical nursing is desired.
2. Ability to communicate clearly with students and colleagues.
3. Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
4. Ability to interact with college faculty, staff and students with sensitivity to diverse backgrounds, disabilities and cultures.
5. Experience in critical care and medical-surgical nursing & Geriatric Nursing.
6. Clinical nursing practice in critical care unit, acute care medical-surgical nursing unit within the last three to five years and at least one year's experience teaching/practice teaching a nursing course or equivalent experience as approved by the Board of Registered Nursing.
7. A demonstrated willingness and commitment to participate in extra-curricular activities.
8. Ability to adapt to changes in nursing education and health care delivery.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary assignment is to teach a full load of nursing theory and clinical courses. Duties and responsibilities associated with the position, involve activities within the department as well as the larger college and district setting. These duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Facilitating student learning by designing varied interactive learning environments
2. Working as a team with staff and administrators to create innovative educational experiences and providing an environment where students are partners in learning.
3. Assisting in program planning, peer evaluation, educational project development and participating in personal and professional growth, as well as, professional development activities.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary and other terms of employment are competitive. Depending on experience and professional preparation, the starting faculty salary ranges from $76,960 - $143,000 for the academic year (ten months). Placement within the range is dependent on the evaluation of experience and professional preparation. The doctorial differential is $4,870 per academic year. The District provides an excellent benefit package including: medical, vision, dental, and life insurance to the employee and eligible dependents.
