DESCRIPTION

Los Angeles Trade-Technical College (LATTC) is accepting applications for a 0.5 FTE Math Liaison (maximum of 17.5 hours per week) to support instructional improvement and student success in mathematics. This Instructor Special Assignment (ISA) is housed within Academic Affairs and is funded by Student Equity and Achievement (SEA) and Strong Workforce Program (SWP) initiatives.

The Math Liaison will work closely with math faculty, tutoring services, counseling, and college leadership to design, implement, and coordinate student-centered academic success strategies. This includes strengthening pathways through gateway math courses, supporting AB 705 compliance, expanding tutoring and co-requisite support, and improving course success and retention, especially for disproportionately impacted student populations. This is a specially funded, limited, temporary assignment and the funding is expected to last through June 30, 2026.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in innovative and equitable math instruction, and a deep commitment to improving outcomes for underrepresented students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum qualifications to teach any discipline offered at LATTC.

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.



    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT COVID 19 VACCINATION

    Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.



    GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Health: A medical certificate indicating fitness to instruct or associate with students is required at the applicant's expense after selection from an eligible list and prior to employment



    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    • Experience teaching developmental and/or transfer-level mathematics courses with evidence of improving student achievement.
    • Familiarity with AB 705 and equity-minded placement and remediation reforms.
    • Experience developing or leading co-requisite models or academic support programs in mathematics.
    • Experience implementing equity-minded strategies that support disproportionately impacted students, including first-generation college students, multilingual learners, and students returning from basic skills.
    • Experience working with tutoring centers or embedded support services to strengthen student learning.
    • Ability to collaborate with faculty, counselors, and administrators across disciplines and departments.
    • Knowledge of guided pathways, math pathways, and best practices for student retention and persistence.
    • Strong data literacy and ability to assess and act on disaggregated student success metrics.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with faculty and institutional partners to improve student retention, progression, and completion in math courses, especially in transfer-level gateway math.

  • Works collaboratively with the tutoring center to enhance the effectiveness of Math tutoring through faculty-led training, ensuring support services are aligned with departmental needs and promote equitable student achievement in Math courses.

  • Serve as the liaison between the Math Department, tutoring services, Academic Connections, and student services to align instructional and support efforts.

  • Develop and coordinate student-centered interventions such as workshops, embedded tutoring, and early alert systems.

  • Support the implementation and refinement of co-requisite and accelerated math models in accordance with AB 705 guidelines.

  • Assist in analyzing student performance data to evaluate program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

  • Lead and support professional development focused on equitable math instruction and culturally responsive pedagogy.

  • Participate in college-wide efforts related to guided pathways, learning communities, and equity initiatives.

  • Help coordinate efforts with the Institutional Effectiveness team to track and report outcomes for grant-related activities.

  • Attend regular planning meetings with faculty, deans, and student success teams to ensure consistent communication and collaboration.

    COMPENSATION

    The salary schedule for adjunct instructors begins at $86.85 per standard hour, plus an office hour differential of $20.32 per hour for classroom assignments. Applicants with a doctoral degree are eligible for a doctoral differential.
