DESCRIPTION

Los Angeles Trade-Technical College (LATTC) is accepting applications for a 0.5 FTE English/Writing Liaison (maximum of 17.5 hours per week) for the 2025 - 2026 academic year. This Instructor Special Assignment (ISA) position is housed in Academic Affairs.

The English/Writing Liaison will support equity-focused initiatives designed to improve student outcomes in writing across the curriculum. The role includes coordinating instructional support services, enhancing the effectiveness of English and Liberal Arts pathways (including co-requisite support), and collaborating with faculty and student services to promote campus-wide writing success. This is a specially funded, limited, temporary assignment and the funding is expected through last June 30, 2026.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum qualifications to teach any discipline offered at LATTC.

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.



    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT COVID 19 VACCINATION

    Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.

    GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Health: A medical certificate indicating fitness to instruct or associate with students is required at the applicant's expense after selection from an eligible list and prior to employment



    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered practices that promote retention, persistence, and completion in English and writing-intensive courses.

  • Experience implementing equity-minded strategies that support disproportionately impacted students, including first-generation college students, multilingual learners, and students returning from basic skills.

  • Familiarity with Guided Pathways, learning outcomes assessment, and institutional equity goals as they relate to student success in English and writing.

  • Demonstrated expertise in teaching English composition, developmental writing, or co-requisite English models.

  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered practices that promote retention, persistence, and completion in English and writing-intensive courses.

  • Experience implementing equity-minded strategies that support disproportionately impacted students, including first-generation college students, multilingual learners, and students returning from basic skills.

  • Familiarity with Guided Pathways, learning outcomes assessment, and institutional equity goals as they relate to student success in English and writing.

  • Experience designing or coordinating academic support services such as writing centers, tutoring, or embedded support models.

  • Knowledge of AB 705 and placement reform efforts in California community colleges.

  • Experience with data-informed equity practices and culturally responsive teaching.

  • Familiarity with integrated reading and writing curricula.

  • Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively across departments.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate writing support services, including tutoring and embedded instruction, in collaboration with Liberal Arts faculty, to ensure all students-especially those from historically underrepresented groups-have access to high-impact support.

  • Works collaboratively with the tutoring center to enhance the effectiveness of English and writing tutoring through faculty-led training, ensuring support services are aligned with departmental needs and promote equitable student achievement in Liberal Arts courses.

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of equitable, effective English pathways, including support for students in transfer-level composition courses.

  • Lead and organize professional development activities focused on writing pedagogy, assessment, and support strategies.

  • Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to develop writing-enhanced assignments and integrated instructional models.

  • Develop and promote writing resources, workshops, and events to support student writing across campus.

  • Monitor and assess the impact of writing initiatives on student learning and equity.

  • Serve as liaison to student support services and academic support programs to ensure alignment and coordination of writing services.

  • Support reporting and documentation related to grant-funded writing initiatives.

  • Attend campus and regional meetings relevant to English, writing instruction, and student success.



    COMPENSATION

    The salary schedule for adjunct instructors begins at $86.85 per standard hour, plus an office hour differential of $20.32 per hour for classroom assignments. Applicants with a doctoral degree are eligible for a doctoral differential.
