Job Description
The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) announces an opening for a 2 full-time tenure track Public Safety Instructors with a contractually permissible, proportional reassigned time assignment to serve as the coordinator for the Public Safety Department. The coordinator assignment will be proportional assignment for .2 FTE (not to exceed .4 FTE), as reassigned time dependent on the number of classes taught by the instructor. The position will be assigned to a teaching assignment of .8 FTE (not less than .6 FTE) in Public Safety.
This position requires the individual to be dedicated to student success in terms of developing, implementing and overseeing the coursework within the Public Safety Affiliation Department. The individual needs to exhibit a passion for teaching in the public safety field and be able to move all these students forward into successful careers and higher education within their current fields. The coursework is taught to working public safety employees and is part of the Instructional Service Agreements that ELAC has with these individual public service agencies and their employees. The Program currently has approximately 25,000 students who are actively involved in careers related to law enforcement, firefighting, and probation. The main duties of the coordinator position is to ensure that the classes taught conform to the course outlines and achieve the desired course goals, assimilate and integrate industry standards into the classroom environment, assess and document student learning outcomes for successful outcomes in the field, develop and maintain guidelines that conform to the California State Education Code requirements for instruction at the community college level, develop curriculum pertinent to the individual agency and the Program as a whole, and to continually coordinate and update the logistics of this Program to ensure an accurate flow of required information.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree plus two years of professional experience directly related to the assignment; OR
- Associate's degree plus six years of professional experience directly related to the assignment; AND
- Sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT AND COVID 19 VACCINATIONS:
- A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant's expense prior to employment.
- Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status or have an approved exemption in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.
Desirable Qualifications
- Desired qualifications are direct experience of 2 years working with Public Service Agencies and a Master's Degree in a related field.
- Teach PSA courses related to theory and skills courses in accordance with the established course outline of record. This includes organizing instruction towards achieving student learning outcomes and utilizing various teaching methodologies such as lecture, discussion, demonstrations, etc.
- Ability to integrate industry experience with classroom teaching experience to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
- Assess and document student learning outcomes to enhance the student learning experience in the classroom.
- Ability to maintain confidential student records.

Placement on the salary schedule is determined by academic preparation and/or employment experience in accordance with AFT Contract. The salary ranges
from $74,500 to $13,843. Applicants with a doctoral degree are eligible for a doctoral differential of $4,741 per year. District benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance to the employee and eligible dependents.
