EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY:
Santa Rosa Junior College is currently accepting applications to establish a pool for part-time associate faculty assignments. Associate assignments are temporary, part-time or on-call. This job posting is not for a specific assignment or for a full-time faculty position, but rather to establish a pool of candidates who may be considered for part-time faculty assignments.

SRJC is a public two-year community college, which serves the County of Sonoma and portions of Marin and Mendocino counties. The District has two campuses, located in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, California, two centers, a Public Safety Training Center located in Windsor, California, and the Robert Shone Agricultural Center located in Forestville, California, and our newest site in the Roseland area of the City of Santa Rosa.         Key Duties and Responsibilities


        • Provide excellent instruction and faculty support to students, which may include evening, weekend, online or hybrid and/or off-campus assignments.
        • Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.
        • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
        • Maintain currency in field(s) of expertise.
        • Associate faculty focus primarily on providing instruction and/or student services.
        • Associate faculty are typically not required to participate in District or department service such as committee work, evaluations, student learning outcomes assessment, and hiring committees, but may be asked to perform these services for additional compensation.

        SELECTION PROCESS:
        Candidates who are recommended for the pool after committee interviews will be added to the pool for disciplines interviewed and deemed qualified for (screening/interviewing committees will confirm disciplines that candidates are qualified for).

        Applications are accepted for associate faculty pools on a continuous basis. If the department has an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, they will review applications. If the department does not have an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, applications remain in the queue for consideration until the need arises, or for up to one year.

        If selected for interview, candidates will be invited to interview with a Screening and Interviewing Committee. The Committee may include representatives consisting of Faculty, Administrators, and Classified Professionals. Students may also participate in the committee selection process as determined by the Screening and Interviewing Committee. For candidates who are recommended for the pool, references will be checked at any point beyond the committee interview. If selected for the pool, candidates remain in the pool for four years.

        Santa Rosa Junior College does not reimburse candidates for expenses related to associate faculty interviews. Requests for remote interviews or other accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

        DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

        SRJC Public Safety is located at the Public Safety Training Center in Windsor. The disciplines of public safety are Administration of Justice, Fire Technology and Emergency Medical Care and the majority of these courses are offered at the center. The Administration of Justice degree program is located at the Santa Rosa campus with some courses being offered at the Petaluma Campus (the Fire Technology degree program is primarily located at the Petaluma Campus). In addition, the In-Service/Correction courses are offered at the Public Safety Training Center.
        The Department of Public Safety offers over 200 sections of public safety educational programs annually for approximately 6,000 students taught by 8 contract faculty and almost 200 part time (associate) instructors. This program offers 14 career certificates as well as three degree programs in each of the public safety disciplines. The department is looking for motivated faculty to join its award winning team.

        Minimum Qualifications


        Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications exactly as listed below for disciplines of interest, or they must file for equivalency (Download PDF reader) in order to be considered.         Required:

        Bachelor's degree AND two years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) fire fighter experience; OR an Associate's degree AND six years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) fire fighter experience; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructors Credential in Fire Science.

        AND

        A Certified Lead Skills Evaluator or successfully completed the SFT Certification Examination Evaluator Training (CEET) Course

        AND

        Certified California Fire Service Training and Education System certification as a Fire Instructor I or higher.

        Requires a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

        Additional Requirements for Fire Academy:
        • Completion of Certified SFT Instructor I
        • OR Certified SFT Training Instructor 1
        • OR Certified SFT Fire Instructor 1


        Additional Requirements for Fire Technology:
        • State Fire Marshal Instructor Certificate
        • Completion of SFT courses (Ethical Leadership in the Classroom and Skills Evaluator-CEET)


        Preferred:
        • Demonstrated commitment to valuing and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism.
        • Completion of SFT courses (Ethical Leadership in the Classroom and Skills Evaluator)
        • Certification as a Master Instructor or Instructional Program Management (Instructor III) through the State Board of Fire Services.
        • Ability to develop and instruct online fire technology courses using the CANVAS online platform.
        • Online Teaching Experience


        WORKING CONDITIONS:

        • Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
        • Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling heavy objects as needed


        HAZARDS:

      • Working around and with machinery having moving parts. Working at elevated positions requiring fall protection precautions.

      • Working in Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH) environments requiring approved breathing apparatus and personal protective clothing (PPE).

        CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
