Located on about 426 acres in the West San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC) combines state-of-the-art technology and learning with the picturesque beauty of its rolling hills. Founded in 1947, LAPC is a growing two-year public institution with more than 100 disciplines being taught to more than 17,000 students each semester and enjoys one of the highest transfer performances in Southern California. Seen as a leader statewide and nationally, LAPC seeks to expand its outstanding faculty by offering a SFP position as a Child Development Teacher in the Child Development Center starting July 1, 2025.
DEPARTMENT: The Pierce College Child Development Center is one of nine campus centers of the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) serving students with children who are two years of age up to kindergarten eligibility. The Child Development Center serves approximately 120 children whose parents qualify for the part-time or full-time state-funded program. The staff consists of full-time faculty and assistant teachers with opportunities for practicum, fieldwork students, and volunteers to learn and assist in the classrooms.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Child Development Center Teacher- SFP position is a full time, limited (non-tenured) "D" Basis position starting July 1, 2025. Continuation of this assignment is contingent on the renewal of the Student Equity and Achievement Program and/or CSPP/CCTR state funding.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Child Development Center Teacher provides services in the care, development, and instruction of children in a child care and development program and supervision. The selected candidate will serve as a coordinator of curriculum and staff development in a child care and development program. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Child Development/Early Childhood Education or closely related field.
- Eligibility for a valid California Child Development Center Permit at the Master Teacher level or possession of a valid California Elementary Credential which includes completion of one year experience in an instructional capacity in a childcare and development program within the last four years and completion of three semester units in multicultural education or anti-bias curriculum.
- Completed three semester units in ECE administration, six units desirable.
- Completion of 350 days of experience in an instructional capacity in a child development program, working at least three hours per day within the last four years.
- A sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, racial and ethnic backgrounds of the community college.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of three (3) semester units in Supervision/Administration of Early Childhood Programs;
- Baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development;
- Verification of current CPR and First Aid Training;
- Knowledge of child abuse reporting requirements;
- Experience in assessing developmental needs/levels of children and setting appropriate objectives;
- Ability to provide guidance to young children, adult students, and volunteers;
- Experience in planning curriculum for indoor/outdoor activities utilizing learning centers;
- Knowledge and understanding of child development pedagogy and methodology of Early Childhood Education with an emphasis on preschool children;
- .Communicate and work effectively and professionally with-faculty, classified staff, students, administrators, and the community;
- A learner-centered focus: able to inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed;
- Display a teaching ability with a nurturing attitude and communication skills necessary to create a positive learning experience for our diverse population of students;
- Commitment to participate in extracurricular responsibilities within the department and college beyond the teaching assignment.
- Ability to provide opportunities to foster self-esteem and cooperative independence.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The current salary range is from $89,400 - $166,116 for the 12-month calendar year, based upon education and experience. The doctoral differential is $5,652 per academic year. The district provides an excellent retirement and benefits package including medical, dental, vision and life insurance to the employee and eligible dependents.
