The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking an Athletic Trainer at Chabot College in Hayward, CA.

Chabot College seeks a dynamic and student-centered Athletic Trainer to provide comprehensive athletic training services to student-athletes and instructional support within the Health, Kinesiology, and Athletics Division. The Athletic Trainer plays a vital role in preventing, evaluating, treating, and rehabilitating athletic injuries while promoting a culture of safety, equity, wellness, and academic excellence.

The position combines clinical athletic training responsibilities with faculty teaching duties, including curriculum development, student learning outcomes (SLO) assessment, and student mentorship. The athletic trainer collaborates with faculty, coaches, health professionals, and administrators to support the physical and academic success of student-athletes.

This position reports directly to the Division Dean.

1. Develop and implement injury prevention strategies and rehabilitation programs for intercollegiate student-athletes.

2. Provide emergency injury assessment, first aid, and referral services at practices, games, and other events.

3. Teach courses in athletic training, health, or kinesiology in accordance with departmental needs and faculty assignment.

4. Maintain accurate documentation of injuries, treatments, and medical clearances using electronic systems.

5. Collaborate with faculty and staff on program development and student success initiatives.

6. Coordinate pre-participation physical exams, injury evaluations, and medical referrals in collaboration with team physicians and health services.

7. Maintain and monitor the athletic training room and inventory of medical supplies and equipment.

8. Serve as a liaison between coaches, students, and healthcare providers to ensure effective communication and treatment plans.

9. Ensure compliance with 3C2A, institutional, and legal standards related to sports medicine and athlete safety.

10. Attend athletic practices, home events, and designated travel as necessary.

11. Engage in institutional planning, program review, and SLO development and assessment.

12. Maintain office hours for academic support and mentoring of students.

13. Participate in college governance, division meetings, and committees as part of faculty obligations.

14. Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities.

1. Masters degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education

OR Bachelors degree in any of the above AND Masters degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy

OR the equivalent

Evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities.

1. Experience working in a California Community College or similar educational setting.

2. Knowledge of 3C2A/NJCAA/NCAA rules and regulations.

3. Experience supporting a broad range of sports including high-contact and non-traditional athletic programs.

4. Familiarity with electronic medical records software for athletic training.

5. Two years of clinical experience as an athletic trainer in a college, university, or comparable setting.

This position is full-time, 11 month, tenure track, beginning Fall 2025. Employment will begin on or about August 14, 2025.

Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs., assist injured athletes, and perform physical demands required in treatment settings. Work in indoor and outdoor environments, including inclement weather.
