EAST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE (ELAC)

East Los Angeles College (ELAC), with an enrollment of approximately 28,000, is the largest of the nine colleges in the LACCD and is located in the Los Angeles suburb of Monterey Park in the San Gabriel Valley, with a satellite campus in the southeast community of South Gate. ELAC provides the highest quality transfer and workforce education courses, along with superior adult education, basic skills, and community service programs. We serve a culturally diverse community in a dynamic urban setting with the purpose of supporting students in achieving associate of arts degrees, general education, skill certificates, and/or personal development. DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program at ELAC, housed within our Administration of Justice Department, seeks to hire someone with a demonstrated commitment to student success for a tenured-track full-time, C-Basis (10 Month) EMT Instructor faculty position to start in the Fall 2025 semester. The successful candidate will exhibit a passion for teaching the EMT program and work collaboratively with the college's other departments to build an integrated program that offers multiple academic and/or professional pathways. Student-focused, motivated, innovative and dynamic individuals who possess the required training, work experience and commitment to the community college mission and values are invited to submit applications.

JOB DUTIES

  • Teach EMT courses related to theory and skills courses in accordance with the established course outline of record. This includes organizing instruction towards achieving student learning outcomes and utilizing various teaching methodologies such as lecture, discussion, demonstrations, etc.

  • Ability to integrate industry experience with classroom teaching experience to meet the needs of a diverse student population.

  • Assess and document Student Learning Outcomes for course.

  • Maintain professional and ethical standards.

  • Maintain currency and competency in Emergency Medical Services guidelines and practices.

  • Ability to maintain confidential student records.

  • Maintain clinical affiliations and development of new clinical sites.

  • Complete LA County reports and recertification documents.

  • Responsible for outreach, recruitment and retention of new and continuing students.

  • Facilitate student onboarding and orientation into the EMT program.

  • Participation in department activities, campus committees and advisory boards.

  • Create academic and career pathways for transfer and job placement related to field of study.

  • The successful candidate will be culturally responsive in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and community members who span a diverse range of languages, nationalities and ethnicities, socio-economic levels, ages, identities, abilities and educational experiences.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional experience, which must be directly related to the teaching assignment;
    • OR
    • Associate degree and six (6) years of professional experience, which must be directly related to the teaching assignment.
    • A sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT & COVID 19 VACCINATION

    A medical certificate indicating fitness to instruct or associate with students is required at the applicant's expense after selection from an eligible list and prior to employment.

    Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.

    Current EMT license.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least one year of experience as an EMT Program Director, Clinical Coordinator, and/or Principal instructor.

  • At least one year of experience coordinating field activities related to the EMT program.

  • Current license as a Physician, Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, Paramedic who is currently licensed in California; Or be an Advanced EMT or EMT who is currently certified in California; AND have at least two years of academic or clinical experience in the practice of emergency medicine or clinical experience in the practice of emergency medicine within the last five (5) years.

    COMPENSATION

    The current starting range is from $72,990 to $135,620 for the ten-month academic year depending on educational preparation and professional experience. The doctoral differential is $4,610 per academic year.
