Los Angeles Trade Technical College (LATTC) is a two-year community college located in the downtown Los Angeles. Each semester, the college serves more than 15,000 students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. LATTC has a 100-year tradition of being a leader in academic and technical curriculum designed to prepare students for the workforce and university studies. Position Description:
Instruct and safely supervise classes in electrical / electro mechanical instruction to prepare students to enter the electrical energy efficiency, construction, and maintenance industry. The instructor would be responsible to teach classes in the electrical and related energy trade. This position would primarily be a day-time assignment. Topics include tools of the trade, equipment, hardware, and installation, workplace habits and safety procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and two years of Journey level electrician or electro mechanical industry experience; or
- Associate degree and six years Journey level electrician or electro mechanical industry experience;
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty, staff, and students.
Eligibility Requirement - COVID 19 VACCINATION:
Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated and complete a baseline test or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.
Verification of Experience letters on letterhead stationery; must show inclusive dates of assignments, state if full-time or part-time and indicate duties. If part-time, the number of paid hours worked per week, semester or year must be included. Uploaded as an Other Document' (Signed hard copies required if selected to interview).
Desirable Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
- Ability to accurately interpret and apply the standards, codes and other applicable references.
- Ability to perform calculations at a minimum level of intermediate algebra and basic geometry.
- Ability to demonstrate electrical and mechanical operations in a classroom laboratory setting.
- Ability to work effectively with students and colleagues of diverse backgrounds.
- Capacity to plan lay out, supervise, direct, and evaluate the work of students.
- Personal characteristics necessary for successful teaching of community college students, including judgment, qualities of leadership, emotional stability, and educational perspective.
- Knowledge or experience with installation and or maintenance of sustainable or green technologies.
- Ability to understand and work with with solar installation and Maintenance.
- Ability to understand and work with Low Voltage Audio Video, alarm and related systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position requires a commitment to the college of 30 hours per week of engagement including over 21 hours of teaching. Evening and or weekend classes may be scheduled based on the department needs.
Duties of this position potentially could include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Maintain, review, and submit student enrollment and attendance data in a timely manner following department, college and district guidelines
- Establish and convene industry advisories, promote business and community partnerships to enhance program resources and job placement for students
- Develop and revise syllabi, curriculum and Student/Program Learning Outcomes, and Program Review
- Retain and motivate students by engaging them in the learning process using a variety of teaching methods, including the use of computers and other technologies to provide high-quality classroom instruction
- Assess the need for equipment and educational materials; help formulate and submit appropriate grant applications and or purchase requests
- Remain active and current in industry certifications and licenses
- Create instructional materials for related subjects using Canvas and other related software.
- Deliver day, evening, weekend, and online classes/training at various locations.
- Demonstrate subject matter from beginning levels to advanced procedures
- Prepare for and effectively present lecture courses
- Demonstrate and execute lesson plans and related handout materials
- Participate in extracurricular activities related to department functions
- Use spreadsheet, word processing and apparel related software
Salary and Benefits:
The starting salary ranges from $74,500 to $138,430 for the 10-month academic year depending on experience and professional preparation. Opportunities for additional earnings exist with winter and summer assignments. The district provides medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents and life insurance for the employee. In addition to the State Teachers' Retirement System (STRS), employees have the option to participate in a 403b plan.
