Job Description

This position requires the individual to develop, coordinate, implement and facilitate the Instructional Service Agreements for the Public Safety Affiliation Department (PSA) at East Los Angeles College (ELAC). These current Agreements include the Los Angeles County Sheriff's, Los Angeles County Probation Department, Los Angeles Fire Department, Long Beach Police Department, Long Beach Fire Department, Monrovia Fire, Monterey Park Fire, Alhambra Fire, San Gabriel Fire, Beverly Hills Fire, Monterey Park Police, and the California Gang Investigator's Association (CGIA). The Program currently has approximately 13,000 students who are actively involved in careers related to law enforcement, fire-fighting, and probation. The main duties of this position are to coordinate all academic programs between the above listed Public Safety Agencies and the PSA Department, develop and maintain guidelines that conform to the California State Education Code requirements for instruction at the community college level, ensure that policies and procedures for these types of Agreements are followed and maintained on a consistent basis, develop curriculum pertinent to the individual agency and the Program as a whole, and to continually coordinate and update the logistics of this Program to ensure an accurate flow of required information.

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications in one of the instructional disciplines offered in the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD).
  • Sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.



Eligibility Requirement: COVID 19 VACCINATION

Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop program curriculum for public safety as per Instructional Services Agreements for the Public Safety Affiliation Department (PSA).
  • Assist in the coordination and the facilitation of the Instructional Service Agreements (ISA's) on a day-to-day basis including planning, organizing, and evaluating any changes that need to be made to existing Agreements to ensure compliance and assist in resolving any on-going problems that may develop in terms of policy changes.
  • Assist in developing new partnership agreements with other Agencies within the emergency services sector by increasing public awareness and enhancing the image of the Program through direct outreach and active participation in public safety organizations.
  • Liaison with all Agency personnel and training bureaus on a regular basis through meetings and on-site visits to ensure a standard of training that meets the rigor of community college level course work including the development of new classes, a review of existing curriculum to ensure compliance to the State Education Code, and the implementation of on-going collaborations to ensure that the training needs of the Agencies are being met.
  • Monitor and evaluate the teaching staff of these public safety Agencies to ensure compliance with the State Education Code in terms of managing the integrity in the classroom environment, maintaining the appropriate handling of student records, and supporting the overall success of students.
  • Coordinate with Admissions and Counseling a process to ensure all aspects of student success including recruitment, enrollment, academic guidance, workload management, and career goals when available.
  • Establish and maintain liaisons with community leaders, business organizations, and public agencies to enhance these partnerships and improve on all aspects of the agreement to enhance sustainability.
  • Perform related duties as needed to ensure the continued success of the Public Safety Affiliation Program.



Compensation and Benefits

Placement on the salary schedule is determined by academic preparation and/or employment experience in accordance with AFT Contract. The salary range from $89,400 to $166,116. Applicants with a doctoral degree are eligible for a doctoral differential of $471 per month. District benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance to the employee and eligible dependents.
