The Contra Costa College Culinary Department is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Faculty. This assignment begins Fall 2025.
Culinary faculty members are responsible for teaching students, developing curricula, and staying current with industry practices while maintaining high professional standards. Job duties include creating lesson plans, teaching and evaluating students, preparing and updating course materials, contributing to the college's intellectual property, and participating in shared governance. Faculty also provide career guidance for students pursuing careers in wine and hospitality, maintain office hours, assist students facing academic challenges, and adhere to college policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
In addition to contractual duties, all full-time faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Part of the teaching assignment may be in the evening and/or online. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
advancing equitable student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines;
participating in the assessment of student learning outcomes for courses and programs; developing and implementing student learning outcomes assessment processes for courses and programs;
collaborating in the development and revision of curriculum and in program review;
engaging in department program improvement initiatives;
participating in department, division, and college committees;
participating in professional development activities, both departmental and college-wide;
7. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter area and effective teaching/ learning strategies;
8. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
9. informing students of course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements;
10. preparing and grading class assignments and examinations and informing students of their academic progress;
11. maintaining attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submitting them according to published deadlines;
12. posting and holding sufficient and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy;
13. participating in College's shared governance processes.
Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.
EDUCATION Any bachelor's or associate degree. Professional experience required (two years/bachelors or six years/associate) must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment. (Some examples of related fields are experience in hospitality, culinary arts, or a relevant business concentration.)
Desirable Qualifications:
- Friendly and welcoming demeanor with guests and colleagues, along with strong presentation skills.
- Good judgment and discretion in handling sensitive student issues.
- High proficiency in beverage and table service, restaurant management, food and beverage costing, and sanitation practices.
- Ability to identify learning outcomes and implement strategies to achieve them with students.
- Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication abilities; capable of effectively collaborating with multiple teams.
- Exceptional organizational skills, detail-oriented, and thorough.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to stay updated on industry trends and integrate them into the curriculum.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and capable of quickly learning industry-specific educational technology and software for grading and ordering systems.
- Requires extended periods of sitting or standing (up to 6 hours); may involve lifting, bending, and stretching.
- Flexible schedule availability is essential based on class times and business needs.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
