POSITION DESCRIPTION

The LACCD is accepting applications for Adjunct Basketball Coach positions at our colleges for the 202 Academic School Year. The purpose of this posting is to create a pool of qualified applicants so that when there is an actual opening at a one of our colleges, the college can then begin their review process by reviewing those applicants. If you have applied to previous pools in this discipline, you will need to apply to this pool to continue to be considered.

The LACCD is seeking dynamic, motivated and diverse candidates for part-time faculty positions to engage and educate our students. Successful candidates will collaborate, communicate and work as professionals with students, staff, faculty and administrators. Applicants with a demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population are strongly encouraged to apply.

During completion of the adjunct application, applicants will have the opportunity to indicate which of LACCD's colleges are of interest for employment. Qualified applicants may be offered an interview with Kinesiology/Athletic Department members at one or more of LACCD's 9 colleges. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, which must be directly related to the teaching assignment.
  • OR Associate's degree and six years of professional experience, which must be directly related to the teaching assignment.
  • A sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Verification of Experience letters on letterhead stationery; must show inclusive dates of assignments, state if full-time or part-time and indicate duties. If part-time, the number of paid hours worked per week, semester or year must be included. Uploaded as an Other Document'. (Signed hard copies required if selected to interview).

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT COVID 19 VACCINATION:

Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates must show a competence with the CCCAA athletic rules and regulations. Degrees in Education, Physical Education, Exercise Science or Kinesiology are encouraged.

Candidate should have prior coaching experience in athletics at the collegiate level and a high degree of commitment to the student-athletes of LASC. The selected coach should be highly organized, able to maintain accurate records, follow college processes, and have good interpersonal communication skills. They should possess the ability to motivate players through positive reinforcement, maintain healthy team morale, and instill the principles of discipline and good sportsmanship into their teams.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Standard duties expected of all part-time faculty include the performance of instructional, counselor or librarian duties as assigned, evaluation and assessment of student work including SLOs and PLOs, and submission of grades. In addition, part-time faculty are expected to participate in evaluations of their performance by administrators, peers and/or students. Part-time faculty may also have other opportunities to participate in campus events, professional development opportunities and college meetings, and are encouraged to be actively involved in the larger College or District community. Part-time faculty may be eligible to receive additional pay for additional assignments, and participation in campus or professional development events.
  • Coach and supervise the Men's Basketball team during practice and games.
  • Provide the organization, direction, and administration of the Men's basketball program, this includes recruiting of participants from diverse ethnic groups.
  • Work with Student Services Administration to ensure athlete eligibility in compliance with the CCCAA regulations.
  • Have a current Class C Driver License and medical card, and/or comply with any new DMV policies and requirements. Travel to contests: be responsible for supervising the student-athletes during bus trips to contests; monitoring staff and student-athletes and ensuring the safety and welfare of all constituents.
  • Be current on CCCAA, South Coast Conference and Los Angeles Southwest College rules, policies and guidelines. This includes taking the CCCAA online test and completing the CCCAA Constitution and Bylaws In-Service every year.
  • Schedule contests and manage all coaching aspects of the MBB program.
  • Develop and execute a fundraising program for Men's Basketball.
  • Maintain active involvement with student activities, sports promotion and Athletic Department fundraising.
  • Support athletes with their academics and provide guidance to athletes on college processes.
  • Develop an off-season strength and conditioning program.
  • Attend coaches (Conference, Regional and State), athletics and faculty meetings. Represent Los Angeles Southwest College and the Los Angeles Community College District in a professional manner.
  • Assignments may include weekends and/or evenings as well as holidays.
  • Develop curriculum and participate in other duties consistent with part-time faculty responsibilities.
  • Other Athletic related activities as assigned by the Athletic Director.

COMPENSATION

Coaches Stipends are paid as recurring payments for the months of September, October and November. Total Stipends will approximate to $18,270 off season conditioning classes paid at the contractual hourly rate.
