As a member of the Fine & Performing Arts Department, the Art Gallery Coordinator plans and schedules annual art exhibitions in the Merced College Art Gallery . Primary duties include working with artists, promotion of exhibitions, scheduling of gallery events, record-keeping functions, and interacting with arts faculty and students about the art gallery schedule. We value new ideas to accomplish existing tasks more efficiently and individuals who take the initiative under general supervision. Additionally, the ability to complete tasks with accuracy and independence are important considerations for this position. General Description

Under general supervision, to coordinate the operation of the art gallery; to obtain, design the display, and advertise the exhibits on campus and in the community; and to do related work as required.

Examples of Duties


Essential Functions:
  • In coordination with the division chairman plans the yearly exhibit program
  • Contacts the artists and arranges for exhibitions; publishes a calendar of exhibits
  • Obtains exhibits; prepares correspondence relating to the gallery program; manages all shipping and mailing; designs mailers; creates the design of each show
  • Maintains the gallery facility
  • Supervises student assistants
  • Works with and consults with faculty on all exhibits to insure best educational value of the gallery program
  • assumes public relations' responsibilities of the exhibit program
  • maintains records and files of exhibitions, correspondence and expenditures
  • Develops budget and supervises all expenditures
  • Other related duties as assigned

  • The contemporary art scene, artists, museums and galleries
  • Concepts of design and graphics

Ability to:
  • Plan the design of exhibits in an effective manner
  • Write effectively
  • Plan advertising methods
  • Maintain records; ability to work cooperatively with others

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
  • High school diploma OR GED AND one (1) year applicable experience
  • OR the equivalent education and experience
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students


PHYSICAL DEMAND AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
