LOCATION

Palo Verde College is located in the City of Blythe at one of the busiest entrance points to California. The college is located in a desert oasis adjacent to the beautiful Colorado River and the Palo Verde Valley. Blythe, and the fertile Palo Verde Valley, is primarily a farming and ranching area. Boating, fishing and hunting attract many tourists. The Palo Verde Valley is centrally located between Phoenix and Los Angeles, Las Vegas and the Mexican border. The valley's great climate, with more than 350 days of sunshine and mild winters, attracts thousands of winter visitors every year.

NATURE OF THE POSITIONUnder the direction of the Associate Dean of Nursing & Allied Health or designee, the Nursing/Instructional Technician II performs specialized duties requiring a working knowledge of nursing and instructional areas and the functions involved therein, as well as the use of initiative and independent judgment within procedural and policy limits. This position performs a variety of clerical duties and provides technical assistance to Instructional departments within the scope of the Instructional Services unit.

Examples of Duties

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides support to assigned Instructional Services programs and services, assists in the
coordination of the day-to-day operations and workflow of the Nursing and Instructional
departments.
2. Answers, screens, and routes incoming calls in assigned area for all staff, faculty, and
students.
3. Provides routine information to employees, students, and the public as requested.
4. Collaborates with other departments to support Nursing and Instructional programs and
makes appropriate referrals.
5. Maintains knowledge of assigned program requirements and makes appropriate
recommendations regarding new technology and departmental operations.
6. Distributes, collects, organizes, and maintains confidential instructional materials, such as
program applications, medical information, fingerprint/background results, or program
notices as assigned.
7. Assists faculty with uploading class syllabi, scantron system training, workorders, travel
request, supply orders, and other operational necessities.
8. Processes purchase orders for Nursing and Instructional Departments and maintains
relationship with supply vendors.
9. Provides clerical support including note taking, typing, filing scanning, and digitally
archiving documents and uploading meeting agendas minutes and other documents on
Boardocs or appropriate systems.
10. Mentors and assists with training Students Worker in assigned service areas.
11. Ensures accuracy and integrity of information inputted and gathered to process reports for
the Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT), California
Department of Public Health (CDPH), advisory committee, and other department
requirements.
12. Provides exceptional customer service and routine information regarding the availability of
or changes to texts, courses or course materials, programs, services or applications to
employees, students, vendors, and the public.
13. Responds to request from other educational institutions and agencies to provide information
on laboratories, equipment, and website information
14. Travels to various education sites such as, but not limited to, prison institutions and
instructional service agreement sites to support instructional programs.
15. Attends meetings, workshops, and conferences related to assigned areas of responsibility.
16. Assists in coordinating and conducting new/returning orientation for Nursing Students.
17. Assists with processing a variety of documents and information related to enrollment and
the maintenance of student and faculty permanent records specifically for instructional
service agreements and equity-based student academic programs.
18. Assists Criminal Justice and Nursing students and faculty in scheduling fingerprints,
processing application fees, organizing acceptance letters, and registering for POST and/or
State Board exams.
19. Assists with organizing health fairs, career events, and job fairs.
20. Plans annual completion ceremonies for Nursing programs.
21. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Educational/Experience Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Associate's Degree from an accredited institution.
2. Two (2) years of related work experience.
3. Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
4. Perform duties requiring attention to detail.
5. Work under time constraints.
6. Type 40 wpm.
7. Passage of the District's clerical skills tests.
8. Proficiency in the use of standard office programs (e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Outlook), personal computers, and the internet.
9. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, ethnic, racial, age, national origin,
religious, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, and socio-economic backgrounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Prior experience in an institution of higher education preferably in Nursing, Instruction, or
Student Services.
2. Knowledge of the California Education Code, Title 5, Chancellor's Office administrative
procedures, State and/or Federal law regulations and other legal parameters that affect the
policies and practices of the Admissions and Records department.

CLASSIFICATION/SALARY
1. This is a Full-Time position, 40 hours per week, 12 months. May include evening and
weekend duty.
2. Row 8 on the classified salary schedule.
3. The District offers an attractive package of fringe benefits including medical, prescription,
dental, vision and life insurance as accorded per CSEA agreement.
