The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) announces an opening for an Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at Los Angeles Mission College (LAMC), a two-year community college that serves approximately 12,000 students from diverse racial and socio-economic backgrounds. The College is one of nine In the LACCD. Founded In 1975, LAMC is located in Sylmar and has strong historical ties to the neighboring communities of San Fernando, Pacoima, Mission Hills, North Hills, Panorama City and Granada Hills. In recent years, the institution's enrollment base has expanded to include many of the communities throughout the greater-San Fernando Valley. The College provides excellent transfer, basic skills, transitional, adult basic education, dual enrollment, and career education programs. Committed to student success, LAMC works closely with local secondary institutions to assist high school students in their transition to higher education and maintains strong ties to the business community by providing highly respected job training programs that directly meet the workforce needs of local and regional employers. JOB DESCRIPTION

LAMC is in search of a student-focused and equity-minded individual seeking to join the College's administrative team as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs (SFP). Under the direction of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and in accordance with the College's mission, this Associate Dean of Academic Affairs (SFP) will lead in the delivery, staffing, administrative support, supervision and support staff at our Pacoima Site. In addition, the Associate Dean (SFP) will support the implementation of the GANAS Title V grant that was designed to address the critical basic need insecurity faced by many of LAMC's Hispanic and low-income students and the barriers it poses to their academic, professional and personal success. The GANAS program will implement strategies to support our Adult Education, Early College Programs, Career Education and partnerships with not only access to educational programs but the basic needs that will support students in meeting their educational and career goals. The SFP Associate Dean will work with the Dean of Academic Affairs that oversees Dual Enrollment and Adult Education as well as the Dean of Student Services that oversees Outreach, Community Engagement and Basic Needs. This is a specially funded position (SFP), and funding is expected to be available till September 2028. Renewal of the position is contingent upon available funding.

A successful candidate demonstrates the ability to implement culturally responsive practices and processes to achieve positive race-consciousness and equitable student outcomes, gaining buy-in from all employees, and develops strong relationships across all disciplines and functional areas to advance institutional goals. The Associate Dean leads and engages in strategic planning and promotes creative ideas that enables the college to be more productive, efficient, and continuously improve its services. The Associate Dean is also responsible for ensuring that programs and services under their supervision meets the needs of a diverse student population, promotes equitable outcomes, complies with all state and federal regulations, complies with the budget goals of the college and the district, and promotes the mission of the college and district.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties below are representative of the role and are not intended to cover all the duties performed as within the scope of work

  • The Pacoima site supervisor will oversee the instructional program and classroom deliverables at the Pacoima location.

  • Oversee the GANAS Title V Grant with the purpose of leading the Basic Needs Initiative and partnership efforts at the Pacoima site to address the various insecurities faced by many of LAMC's Hispanic and low-income students and the barriers it poses to their academic, professional, and personal success.

  • Collaborate and coordinate with Deans of Academic Affairs and Student Services who are working directly with the GANAS grant and community partners.

  • Improve Pacoima student accessibility to student services, academic affairs, adult education, and career technical education departments/units to enhance the services provided at the Pacoima site.

  • Responsible for developing community relationships in the city of Pacoima and the surrounding communities and identifying additional resources and partnerships that will assist with the goals outlined in the GANAS grant.

  • Create a continuum of care that supports Hispanic and low-income students experiencing basic need insecurity, starting from their noncredit programming at Pacoima through their transition to credit programming at the Sylmar campus.

  • Work with campus Career Services departments to provide short and long-term career support that ensures Hispanic and low-income students have stable income and are prepared for the workplace.

  • Assist with the promotion of programs including the expansion of the English as a Second Language Non-Credit courses, Allied Health, and Basic Skills GED noncredit and certification completion to ensure Hispanic and low- income noncredit students are prepared to enter short term CTE programs and credit degree offerings at LAMC.

  • Promote programs to serve the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disabled, and ethnic backgrounds of the community college student.

  • Plan, coordinate, and provide training and professional development to assigned staff.

  • Oversee staff assignments and schedules; assign work location in accordance with established District policies.

  • Coordinate the investigation of and assist in the facilitation and the resolution of student, staff, and faculty conflict and complaints in accordance with State and District requirements.

  • Facilitate discussion and collaboration related to the understanding and utilization of data in planning and decision making.

  • Participate in the recruitment, hiring and evaluation of staff.

  • Represent the Vice President of Academic Affairs as requested.

  • Serve on accreditation, shared governance and/or college committees as assigned.

  • Serve as evening/weekend administrator (as assigned).

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirements below as described in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty & Administrators in California Community Colleges Handbook:

    1. A Master's degree from an accredited college or university.

    2. Completion of one year of full-time formal training, internship or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment.

    3. Commitment to improving student success through an equity lens.

    4. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual, English and Spanish.

  • Knowledge and experience in curriculum development, scheduling, FTE management, and compliance with regulation and contractual requirements.

  • Personal characteristics necessary for working with students, employees, and the public in an administrative capacity, including demonstrating ethical behavior, stability, good judgment, tact, team spirit, and ability to cooperate with co-workers.

  • General knowledge of curriculum development and noncredit programming.

  • Demonstrated experience in grant management both federal and state grants.

  • Demonstrated experience in working with adult education institutions and community-based organizations.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in planning, organizing, and implementing student services or comparable programs.

  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting, articulating, and implementing a variety of regulations, policies and procedures related to student services programs in California.

  • Demonstrated experience in working with special populations such as, Undocumented Students, Adult Learners, Students with Disabilities, and other underserved populations.

  • Sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

  • General knowledge of grant budget development, grant implementation, and management.

  • Skilled in management through participatory governance, budgeting and financial planning, strategic planning, leadership, problem solving, revenue-generation, and team building.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and experience with leading presentations using appropriate technological resources.

  • Knowledge or experience related to compliance with applicable federal and state civil rights laws, collective bargaining agreements, policies, and procedures.

  • Demonstrated experience in writing, obtaining and implementing grants (federal and state).

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in planning, organizing and implementing programs.

  • Knowledge and experience in the implementation of Federal and State programs.

  • Able to create and implement a diverse and culturally responsive environment, programs, and activities to enhance students access to equitable resources and services.

  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators.

  • Personal characteristics necessary for working with students, employees and the public in an administrative capacity, using good judgment, tact, team spirit, and the ability to cooperate with co-workers.

  • Ability to work in a timely and effective manner with faculty, staff and administration.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and demonstrated ability to produce significant reports/documents.

  • Excellent computer skills with experience in database system management and data analysis.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    This position may require a non-traditional work schedule, including evenings and weekends, and local, state, and national travel.
    GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

    A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant's expense prior to employment.


    SALARY AND BENEFITS:

    Salary ranges from $154,212 - $181,068 annually. The selected candidate's salary will be allocated based on prior experience. In addition, there is a $5,940 differential for a doctoral degree. An excellent benefits package which includes medical, vision, dental and life insurance is available for the employee and eligible dependents.
