Job Description:
This person may be assigned to coordinate and teach courses in the Integrated Education and Training (IET) program for NOCE ESL. Regular duties include, but are not limited to:
Provide noncredit adult ESL instruction contextualized for workforce preparation and training activities to students enrolled in IET programs for specific industries.
Collaborate with vocational instructors to co-plan language objectives for lessons, create ESL/IET instructional materials, and co-teach vocational classes with ESL integration.
Mentor and provide instructional design support and resources to adult ESL faculty teaching in IET programs.
Research, review and evaluate ESL/IET materials and instructional technology.
Participate in webinars, trainings, and conferences regarding IET compliance and best practices for adult ELLs.
Ensure administration of CASAS and EL Civics assessments.
Motivate and give feedback to students to support persistence and program completion.
Provide hands-on practice using project-based learning to prepare adult students for employment.
Coordinate with NOCE ESL Associate Dean and EL Civics Faculty Lead to establish methods to track and record students' job status after completing IET programs.
Conduct needs analysis and assist with evaluating the effectiveness of IET programs for adult ELLs.
Assist NOCE ESL Associate Dean and Program Manager in budget planning, data collection, program compliance, and reporting.
Teach Non-credit ESL courses focused on career development and college preparation to a diverse adult student population.
Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities.
Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.
Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle.
Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.
Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.
Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties.
Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
Develop culturally relevant course content, culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and/or are students who are historically underserved. The ideal candidate should have experience in this area with African American, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders and other disproportionately impacted students.
Work cooperatively with staff and students.
Evening and/or weekend assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

Minimum Qualifications:
Except provided elsewhere in this article, the minimum qualifications for service as a faculty member teaching a noncredit course shall be the same as the minimum qualifications for credit instruction in the appropriate discipline, or as follows:
(1) Bachelors degree in teaching English as a second language, or teaching English to speakers of other languages
OR
(2) Bachelors degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor
OR
(3) Bachelors degree with any of the majors specified in subparagraph (2) above; and one year of experience teaching English as a second language in an accredited institution; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first two years of employment as a noncredit instructor
OR
(4) Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in ESL.

Desirable Qualifications:
Masters degree in TESOL, TESL, or TEFL (including Masters in Linguistics or Education with TESOL/TESL/TEFL emphasis or concentration)
Recent successful experience teaching ESL to adults of diverse populations, preferably in a noncredit education environment.
Experience designing and teaching curricula responsive to the needs of adult English language learners, including workforce training content.
Understanding of the barriers faced by immigrant, asylee, refugee, and first-generation students, and commitment to equity and diversity-minded instruction.
Pedagogical currency in theories and methods that address varied learning styles of adult ESL learners (e.g. co-instruction, I-BEST).
Experience collaborating with full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, staff, and/or community leaders to assist historically-underrepresented students achieve their educational and career goals.
Demonstrated experience with CASAS and EL Civics assessments. Familiarity with Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and CDE policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
Demonstrated leadership, project coordination, and data analysis skills.
Effective interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with others in a diverse, inclusive environment and at all levels in the organization.
Training and experience in teaching Distance Education.
Working Conditions:
Salary Range: $84,277 - $126,482 Annually

Special Instructions Summary: Initial salary placement will be determined by the Office of Human Resources in accordance with the faculty collective bargaining agreement and is not negotiable.
