  • Salary Range: Yearly Salary of $80,693 - 113,724 (23/24 Faculty Salary Schedule); Placement within this range is determined by teaching experience, other related professional experience, and academic degrees. Santa Rosa Junior College is seeking an individual with demonstrated instructional skills to join an outstanding team of faculty and instructional administrators to provide high quality programs and services to our district, our community, and most importantly, our students. This is a full-time, regular contract position in the Art Department at Santa Rosa Junior College, beginning Fall Semester, August 2024. Appointments are contingent upon funding and Board approval.

Essential Functions

Department Description

The SRJC Music Department is one of the most successful and well-established community college music programs in Northern California. The Department offers a comprehensive program with Associate in Arts degrees in Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, and/or Jazz Studies, as well as a degree and certificate in Commercial Music. Students seeking transfer to a CSU or a UC as a Music major or minor are provided the core curriculum for transfer. The department also offers a wide array of General Education survey courses for musicians and non-musicians alike, as well as entry-level courses in piano, voice, and guitar.

Our performing groups include the Santa Rosa Symphonic Chorus, Chamber Singers, Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Jazz Combos that regularly perform at our Santa Rosa campus, including in our multi-million-dollar newly renovated Burbank Auditorium, and out in the community. Our outstanding Applied Music program provides our Music majors with opportunities for individual instruction and recital performance. The Department regularly hosts performances and master classes by renowned guest artists, and is closely allied with other community music groups including the Santa Rosa Symphony and music teacher organizations such as MACCC, CAPMT, and MTAC.

The Santa Rosa Symphonic Chorus (a 50- 70-voice mixed ensemble) and the Chamber Singers (a 16- to 32-voice mixed ensemble) are dedicated to the study, rehearsal, and performance of a cappella and accompanied choral literature from the Renaissance to the contemporary era. The choirs perform at least two on-campus concerts each year, perform regularly with the Santa Rosa Symphony, and tour annually.

Essential Functions

The Music Department is seeking an experienced choral/vocal instructor to fill this full-time tenure-track position.

The SRJC Director of Vocal Music oversees the entire vocal music program which includes directing two choirs, teaching courses in vocal diction and repertoire, and giving private vocal lessons through our Applied Music program. The Director works closely with the vocal programs at feeder high schools and at Sonoma State University. The Director also manages the choral music budgets and endowments, provides direction for vocal scholarships, and coordinates tours and travel for the choirs.

The Music Department offers courses on two campuses, located in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, as well as some online course offerings. While this assignment is for the Santa Rosa Campus, please note the district reserves the right of assignment to any location, and that assignments could involve any combination of day or evening classes with weekly office hours being mandatory. Instructors assume responsibility for maintaining currency in the field, for updating existing courses and developing new curricula (including courses that serve community needs, such as short, non-credit, or online courses), assisting in the assessment of student learning outcomes, participating in department activities and other college service such as committee work, managing laboratories, and participating in community outreach on behalf of the college.   • Experience directing choirs, particularly at the college level
  • Familiarity with choral, art song, operatic, musical theater, and contemporary literature
  • Fluency with and the ability to teach the International Phonetic Alphabet
  • Ability to teach vocal diction in Italian, English, German, French, Spanish and other languages as necessary
