The Fine and Media Arts Department at Contra Costa Community College is accepting applications for an Adjunct Faculty (part time). This is a temporary assignment that begins in Spring 2027.Provide course instruction in Studio Art classes in accordance with course outlines. Classes may include but are not limited to: Sculpture and Ceramics.The student population of Contra Costa College (CCC) reflects its surrounding diverse communities. Duties and Responsibilities:
Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;
4. meeting with students outside of class;
5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
8. maintaining accurate academic records;
9. performing other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.

EDUCATION Master's in fine arts, art, or art historyORBachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in humanitiesORThe equivalent(NOTE: "Master's in fine arts" as used here refers to any master's degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the "Master of Fine Arts" (MFA) degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing or other nonplastic arts.)

Desirable Qualifications:

1. Recent teaching experience in community college, undergraduate, or adult education settings.
2. Demonstrated expertise in both sculpture and ceramics, including traditional and contemporary practices.
   • Experience teaching multiple sculpture processes such as:
     • additive and subtractive methods
     • mold-making and casting
     • woodworking and metal fabrication
     • installation and mixed-media approaches
     • kiln-based ceramic processes
     
     
     
3. Experience managing and maintaining studio facilities, equipment, kilns, tools, and material inventories.
4. Knowledge of studio safety standards, including ceramic, dust-control, ventilation, and fabrication safety practices.
5. Demonstrated success supporting retention and achievement for first-generation, nontraditional, and historically underserved students.
6. Experience mentoring student exhibitions, clubs, public art projects, or community partnerships.
7. Ability to teach across multiple levels, including introductory and advanced studio courses.
