The Fine and Media Arts Department at Contra Costa Community College is accepting applications for an Adjunct Faculty (part time). This is a temporary assignment that begins in Spring 2027.Provide course instruction in Art History classes in accordance with course outlines. Classes may include but are not limited to: Appreciation of Art and Architecture, Multi-Cultural Survey of American Art, History of Art: Prehistory through the Middle Ages, History of Art: Renaissance to Contemporary, Survey of African Arts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;
4. meeting with students outside of class;
5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
8. maintaining accurate academic records;
9. performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.
EDUCATION
Master's in fine arts, art, or art history OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in humanities OR The equivalent
(NOTE: "Master's in fine arts" as used here refers to any master's degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the "Master of Fine Arts" (MFA) degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing or other nonplastic arts.)

Desirable Qualifications:
- Recent teaching experience in community college, undergraduate, online, or adult education settings.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas that complement existing departmental offerings (e.g., contemporary art, global art histories, non-Western art, Latin American art, Asian art, Indigenous art, museum studies, or visual culture).
- Experience teaching a broad range of art history courses, including:
- introductory surveys of global art history
- modern and contemporary art
- thematic or interdisciplinary art history courses
- visual culture and media
- Experience teaching a broad range of art history courses, including:
- Experience designing and delivering online and hybrid instruction using learning management systems and digital engagement tools.
- Demonstrated ability to engage students in visual analysis, historical interpretation, research, and critical thinking.
- Experience incorporating diverse perspectives and expanding representation of artists, cultures, and historical narratives within curriculum.
- Experience supporting retention and academic achievement for first-generation, nontraditional, and historically underserved students.
- Experience collaborating across disciplines, including studio art and media studies
