Located on about 426 acres in the West San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC) combines state-of-the-art technology and learning with the picturesque beauty of its rolling hills. Founded in 1947, LAPC is a growing two-year public institution with more than 100 disciplines being taught to more than 17,000 students each semester and enjoys one of the highest transfer performances in Southern California. Seen as a leader statewide and nationally, LAPC is now seeking to expand its outstanding faculty by offering a full-time tenure track faculty position as a Computer Science Instructor in the Computer Science and Technology Department starting Fall 2026 Semester.

DEPARTMENT

The Los Angeles Pierce Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT) Department delivers engaging, student-centered courses that help students either transfer into 4-year programs or gain employment in businesses seeking workers skilled in current technologies. The department teaches courses in the following areas: Computer Programming, Networking, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Game Development, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging fields. The successful candidate will join a team of full and part-time faculty that work together to deliver the greatest opportunities to the student, communities, and employers we serve.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In accordance with its mission as a community college, instruction at LAPC includes lower division courses. Faculty members are expected to facilitate student learning by designing varied and exciting learning environments. The regular weekly teaching load is 15 standard hours per semester. Evening and/or weekend classes may be scheduled based on department needs. Duties of these positions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Teach courses over an academic year in accordance with established course outline of record;
  • Maintain the required number of scheduled office hours for student contact;
  • Participate in the development and the assessment of student learning outcomes (SLOs) and program learning outcomes (PLOs) and participate in required program planning and annual program review;
  • Complete and submit required documents in accordance with district policy;
  • Devote required time, in accordance to faculty contract, to campus and department responsibilities (committees, accreditation, etc.);
  • Work collegially with members of the department, classified staff, students, faculty and administrators to maintain professional conduct and ethics, and foster a professional working environment;
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge in the discipline;
  • Maintain accurate records (e.g., grades, attendance, class exclusions, etc.) and submit records in accordance to district policy and board rules;
  • Develop resources, materials, and strategies, including using multimedia technology (Canvas) to teach students in a multicultural and equitable environment;
  • Collaborate within the department, college, local high schools and industry partners;
  • Develop supplementary materials and incorporate instructional technology to complement textbooks, other published materials, and lecture presentations;
  • Collaborate with peers across disciplines;
  • Develop courses in emerging application and systems development technologies;
  • Build career pathways for job opportunities, internships and connect students to the emerging computer industry including coordinating and managing advisory meetings and workshops in alignment with Career Technical Education (CTE);
  • Develop, implement and update course curricula, course materials and course outlines of record for both transfer and CTE courses;
  • Work collegially with members of the department, classified staff, students, faculty and administrators to maintain professional conduct and ethics, and foster a professional working environment;
  • Assume departmental duties as assigned by the chairperson (e.g., plan and attend advisory meetings, revise course outlines, participate actively on campus committees).


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's in computer science or computer engineering; OR

  • Bachelor's in either of the above AND Master's in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting or engineering, OR

  • Bachelor's in engineering, AND Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration, OR

  • Bachelor's in mathematics AND Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration; OR

  • Bachelor's degree in any of the above, AND Master's degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems; OR

  • the equivalent

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background as well as accommodating any disabilities of community college faculty, students and staff.



    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    • Two years of higher education level teaching experience in subjects related to Computer Science/Computer Information Systems (CS/CIS);
    • An excellent academic record that indicates a strong foundation in teaching the discipline;
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
    • Experience teaching online classes, curriculum development, and the accreditation process;
    • Ability to integrate current and emerging instructional technologies to enhance student success;
    • Develop educational and/or informational seminars for students, faculty, staff and the business community;
    • A minimum three-years industry working experience;
    • Experience with a wide variety of programming languages (Java, Python, C++) Data Science, AI, Game Development and other in-demand or emerging technologies);
    • Commitment to a career in a diverse, student-centered department and college, including possessing and developing knowledge of equity-centered educational practices to support the success of Latinx, Black, Indigenous, and other students of color, as well as women in STEM;
    • A learner-centered focus: able to inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed;
    • An ability to communicate professionally with students, classified staff, faculty and administration; including community, business, and industry;
    • Develop partnerships with industry and organizations locally, nationally, and internationally that will enhance the department's ability to deliver education.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS

    The current starting range is from $76,960 to $143,000 for the 10-month academic year depending on education and experience. The doctoral differential is $4,70 per academic year. The District provides an excellent retirement and benefits package including medical, vision, dental, and life insurance to the employee and eligible dependents.
