FULL-TIME. TENURE TRACK

Located on more than 400 acres in the West San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC) combines state-of-the-art technology and learning with the picturesque beauty of its rolling hills. Founded in 1947, LAPC is a two-year public institution with more than 100 disciplines being taught to more than 17,000 students each semester and enjoys one of the highest transfer performances in Southern California. Seen as a leader statewide and nationally, LAPC is now seeking to expand its outstanding faculty by offering a Computer Applications and Office and Technology Instructor (CAOT) position starting with the Fall 2026 semester.
DEPARTMENT
The Los Angeles Pierce Computer Applications and Office Technologies Department is an innovative, progressive department with a commitment to educate students for positions in the business world and/or to transfer to four-year institutions. The department currently consists of three full-time faculty members, two instructional assistants, and fourteen adjunct faculty.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with its mission as a community college, instruction at LAPC focuses on lower-division courses. Faculty members at LAPC are expected to facilitate student learning by designing varied and exciting learning environments. The regular teaching load is 15 hours. Courses may be scheduled evenings, weekends, and/or at off-site locations. Duties of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Teach courses in business education, such as business English, business terminology, business communications, career skills for the workplace, computer keyboarding, and computer software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, QuickBooks, Windows, Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat, InDesign, and Illustrator) in accordance with the established course outline;
- Maintain the required number of scheduled office hours for student contact;
- Maintain accurate records (grades, attendance, class exclusion, etc.) and submit records in accordance to district policy and board rules;
- Participate in the development and the assessment of student learning outcomes (SLOs) and program learning outcomes (PLOs) and participate in required program planning and annual program review;
- Participate in professional activities and maintain current knowledge in the discipline;
- Develop supplementary materials and incorporate instructional technology to complement textbooks, other published materials, and lecture presentations;
- Devote required time, in accordance to the faculty contact, to campus-based responsibilities (committees, accreditation, etc.);
- Work collegially with members of the department, classified staff, students, faculty and administrators to maintain professional conduct and ethics, and foster a professional working environment.
- Complete and submit required documents in accordance with district policy;
- Assume appropriate share of the development and updates of department courses and curricula;
- Develop resources, materials, and strategies, including using multimedia technology (Pierce Online / Canvas) to teach students in a multicultural environment;
- Devote required time, in accordance to faculty contract, to campus and department responsibilities (committees, accreditation, etc.);
- Participate in department, campus, and/or district committees;
- Carry a fair share of departmental duties, including, but not limited to, community outreach, recruitment, program planning, and advisory committees;
- Assume departmental duties as assigned by the chairperson (e.g., plan and attend advisory meetings, revise course outlines, participate actively on campus committees).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree(s) and two years of professional experience; or
- Associate's degree(s) and six years of professional experience.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic. cultural, an ethnic background as well as accommodating and disability of community, college faculty, students and staff.
(The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment. Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master's degree.)
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT COVID 19 VACCINATION:
Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess an excellent academic record that indicates a strong background in business communication, office technologies, and computer software applications.
- Experience in teaching in a community college or other college setting.
- Master's in business, business administration or business education.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining up-to-date knowledge of recent development in the field of CAOT and related areas.
- Knowledge of leading computer software programs in business and industry.
- Experience with grants, including writing proposals, implementing grant activities, and reporting.
- Demonstrated evidence of successfully initiating and implementing projects.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Experience with online course management software.
- Commitment to the success of students working towards transfer to university as well as students working to complete CTE certificates, degrees, and special projects.
- Experience in develop courses for specialty programs such as accounting software, certificates, website design, desktop publishing, e-commerce, and with a focus on developing and updating courses that integrate Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) materials when suitable.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintain up-to-date knowledge of computer software and a to develop and update courses as software changes occur, including AI and emerging technologies where appropriate.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to student engagement in the community college and dual enrollment settings serving local high schools.
- Willingness to conduct higher education outreach and recruitment for low-income, first-generation college, disabled, and/or ethnic minority students.
- Strong oral and written skills.
- Possess working knowledge of grant development, including proposal preparation, project implementation, and reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with community/industry partners to support departmental efforts to cultivate partnerships with local organizations and businesses.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The starting salary ranges from $76,960 to $143,000 for the 10-month academic year, depending on experience and professional preparation. The PhD differential is $4,870 per academic year. An excellent benefit package that includes medical, vision, dental, and life insurance is available for the employee and eligible dependents.
