Located on about 426 acres in the West San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC) combines state-of-the-art technology and learning with the picturesque beauty of its rolling hills. Founded in 1947, LAPC is a growing two-year public institution with more than 100 disciplines being taught to more than 20,500 students each semester and enjoys one of the highest transfer performances in Southern California. Seen as a leader statewide and nationally, LAPC is now seeking to expand its outstanding faculty by offering a Long-Term Substitute (LTS) position in Physics with the Physics and Planetary Sciences Department for the 2026-2027 academic year ending June 18, 2027.

POSITION:

The Physics and Planetary Science Department at LAPC invites applications for a full-time Long-Term Substitute Physics Instructor position to begin Fall 2026. Physics is the foundational science, the literature of the language of mathematics. Physics explains forces, motion, thermodynamics, mechanics, optics, fluids, electromagnetics, gravity, relativity, and mechanics from the scale of atoms to the scale of the observable Universe. Physics makes real the truth of mathematics and produces problem solvers skilled in systems analysis and reductionism.

The physics program serves students from many majors within the STEM disciplines from life science to chemistry to allied health to engineering to computer science to physics and astronomy, many of whom are on their way to transfer to complete a baccalaureate studies or more. In all cases, we strive to empower our students with the critical thinking skills to give them more agency over their own lives. Our physics courses are housed within LAPC's center for the Sciences using smart classrooms.
