Los Angeles Harbor College (LAHC) is located approximately 22 miles south of Los Angeles, near the Port of Los Angeles, and occupies 83 acres of land. The college primarily serves students from Harbor City, Carson, San Pedro, Gardena, Lomita, Wilmington, and the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The college is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), Black Serving Institution (BSI) and Native Pacific Islander (NAANAPI) Serving Institution.

The Los Angeles Community College District announces a probationary full-time tenure-track Psychology Instructor with a specialization in Statistics and Research Methods position. The position is scheduled to begin in the Fall 2026 semester.

Interested individuals who meet the state of California minimum qualifications and possess the required training and experience are invited to submit an application for the position.

Associate Degree Psychology Program

The Psychology Department of Harbor College is an active, student-centered department with a strong commitment to excellence and student success. The department currently consists three full-time faculty members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Psychology OR

  • Bachelor's in Psychology AND Master's in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience, or social work OR equivalent.

  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty, staff and students.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The primary assignment is to teach a full load of Psychology courses primarily in-person on campus, off campus, and at dual enrollment sites. Assignments may include online assignments subject to availability. Duties and responsibilities associated with the position involve activities within the program as well as the larger college setting.

    The duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop/revise syllabus in accordance with approved course outline,

  • Maintain work schedule as defined by Standard Teaching Loads as defined in collective bargaining agreement, including required office hours,

  • Develop resources, materials, and strategies, including using multimedia technology platforms to teach students in a multicultural environment,

  • Assume departmental duties as assigned by the chairperson (e.g., participate in program review, attend advisory committee meetings, revise course outlines, assist with student advisement, and participate actively on campus committees),

  • Actively participate in Psychology program Faculty, Curriculum, and Evaluation committees,

  • Assess student learning outcomes and develop/implement/evaluate change to improve outcomes,

  • Attend Psychology program and college professional events, including but not limited to, college commencement,

  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge in academic area,

  • Actively work with students by facilitating student research conferences and serving as advisor to the Psychology club,

  • Comply with district, college, and Psychology program policies in the performance of duties.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • In addition to the requirements and responsibilities listed, the following criteria will be considered in selecting candidates for interviews:

    o Educational experience- breadth and depth,

    o Work experience- breadth and depth,

    o Experience teaching statistics and research methods,

    o Strong oral and written communication skills,

    o Experience working with community college students,

    o Ability to teach on-line courses upon hire using Canvas,

    o Demonstrated leadership capabilities,

    o Curriculum development experience,

    o Program development experience,

    o Community involvement,

    o Demonstrated experience working with a socioeconomically diverse community, and

    o Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS

    This is a 10-month, 35-hour-per-week faculty position. The selected candidate will be rated into the salary schedule after hiring based on experience and professional preparation. First-year faculty members are placed in a salary range of $76,960 to $143,000, commensurate with academic preparation and experience. The doctoral differential is $4,870 per pay period. District benefits include health, dental and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents and term life insurance for the employee.

    SELECTION PROCEDURE

The screening committee will select applicants to be invited to an interview. The interview process includes a written exercise, teaching demonstration, and oral interview. All materials submitted become the property of the Los Angeles Community College District.
