This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the Business Department at Merced College, working under the general direction of the Dean of Instruction. The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses within the Business programs, which could include Administrative Office Management (AOM). This position also provides faculty support for our entrepreneurship program and community outreach. The standard teaching load is 15 units per semester and may include a mix of daytime and evening in-person classes, dual enrollment courses with local high schools, online classes, and classes in our Rising Scholars prison education program. In alignment with the college's commitment to serving working professionals, the position involves teaching across multiple online formats, including hybrid, full-term, and short-term courses.

Salary Schedule

*Position's initial maximum salary placement is $96,951*
All successful candidates with doctorates will receive both the two step placement and the doctoral stipend

General Description

This is a full-time, tenure track instructional assignment at Merced College under the general direction of the Dean of Business and Economics. The professor will teach a variety of Business courses. The specific mix of teaching assignments will vary from semester to semester. The standard teaching load is 15 units per semester, which may include in-person, online, evening, and weekend hours.

Examples of Duties


Essential Functions
  • Provide innovative and effective instruction in accordance with current pedagogy and established course outlines and expectations
  • Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance policies and maintain regular and substantive contact with students
  • Maintain and submit required student attendance and scholastic records on the Learning Management System (e.g. grades and syllabi)
  • Utilize the Learning Management System to deliver, prepare, and grade class assignments and examinations
  • Maintain and utilize effective skills in instructional design, applications, and methods
  • Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy
  • Participate in the development and review of curriculum
  • Participate in the development of teaching-learning methods and materials
  • Participate in departmental, area, and campus professional activities/committees
  • Represent the college within the Merced community and within professional circles
  • Participate in the college's learning outcomes assessment program, including course, program, and institutional assessments to continually improve student learning outcomes


Typical Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

Required
  • Master's degree in business, business management, business administration, accountancy, finance, marketing or business education
  • OR Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND Master's in economics, personnel management, public administration, or Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.)
  • OR Bachelor's degree in economics with a business emphasis AND Master's in personnel management, public administration, or Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.)
  • OR the equivalent

Preferred
  • Teaching experience at the college level
  • Teaching experience and/or coursework in Business Administration
  • Related experience will be considered
  • Ability and willingness to teach all levels of Business courses offered at Merced College, including Business Law, Marketing, and Finance
  • Current technology skills related to teaching the discipline; a willingness to pursue future technological developments; and a commitment to integrating technology into the curriculum
  • Familiarity with the use of computers in the Business curriculum
  • Ability to relate the practical and the theoretical aspects of the subject matter to the student

Interview Information
Applicants deemed highly qualified for the position will be invited to participate in onsite oral interviews conducted by a screening committee. A limited number of candidates will be selected to move forward to the interview stage.
