Position:
The LACCD is accepting applications for Respiratory Therapy Instructor, Adjunct position for both East Los Angeles College and Los Angeles Valley College for the 2026 Academic School Year. The purpose of this posting is to create a pool of qualified applicants so that when there is an actual opening at a one of our colleges, the college can then begin their review process by reviewing those applicants. The LACCD is seeking dynamic, motivated and diverse candidates for part-time faculty positions to engage and educate our students. Successful candidates will collaborate, communicate and work as professionals with students, staff, faculty and administrators. Applicants with a demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population are strongly encouraged to apply.
Qualified applicants may be offered an interview with Allied Health/Health Occupation Department members. Final determination of part-time Respiratory Therapy Instructor assignments is contingent upon enrollment, funding and class availability.
Minimum Qualifications (One of the Following Required):
- Bachelor's degree and two years of directly related professional experience; OR
- Associate's degree and six years of directly related professional experience: AND
- A current active California Respiratory Therapy Practitioner license from the Respiratory Care Board of California and possess a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential held for a minimum of 4 years.
- Resident of California.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution AND
- At least two years of professional experience in respiratory care AND
- At least two years of teaching experience in a clinical or accredited respiratory care program.
- Teaching experience at the community college level both in person and online classes.
- Familiarity with accreditation standards (CoARC).
- Bilingual or multilingual proficiency.
- Experience with curriculum development or program coordination.
- Commitment to equity-minded teaching and professional practices.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach a variety of courses in the Respiratory Therapy discipline.
- Develop and deliver curriculum that supports diverse learning styles and promotes equity and inclusion.
- Supervise and evaluate students in classroom, lab, and clinical settings.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge in respiratory care, integrating current industry practices into instruction.
- Participate in program development, assessment, and accreditation activities.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and community partners to support student engagement and success.
- Provide culturally responsive instruction and mentorship to a diverse student population, including students from historically underserved and marginalized communities.
- Maintain a flexible schedule to meet program needs, which may include evening or weekend assignments.
- Maintain regular and effective contact with students and faculty.
- Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours.
- Assist in curriculum revisions and new course development, department planning, and program review.
- Participate in the development and/or selection of course materials, supplies, equipment, and technology that will enhance Respiratory Care offerings.
- Participate, on an ongoing basis, in the development, assessment, and analysis of Respiratory Care student learning outcomes, program learning outcomes, and institutional learning outcomes.
- Assure compliance with the rules and regulations of the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) and the Respiratory Care Board of California (RCB) for the Associate's and Baccalaureate programs to support and maintain successful accreditation.
- Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs.
COMPENSATION:
The salary schedule for adjunct instructors begins at $86.85 per standard hour, plus an office hour differential of $20.32 per hour for classroom assignments. Applicants with a doctoral degree are eligible for a doctoral differential.
