CASE MANAGER
WELCOME TO SANTA MONICA COLLEGE! We are seeking a Case Manager for the Basic Needs Department to provide mental health assessments, resources and support services to students in the areas of Basic Needs and Center for Wellness and Wellbeing. This position also supports the social work internship program. This position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, 12 months per year on the Santa Monica College main campus.
Please note that all candidates must have authorization to work in the United States; the District does not have the ability to provide sponsorship. This position is fully grant funded, and ongoing permanency of this position is dependent upon availability of ongoing funding.

Strong communication skills-both written and verbal-are essential, along with the ability to present information clearly and effectively in a variety of settings.

Salary Placement
New Employees: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. A new permanent classified employee may request a higher salary placement based on recruitment issues and/or additional training and experience which greatly exceeds the minimum requirements. Please note that salary placement above the third step requires additional approvals by Santa Monica College executive staff.
Current Employees: Upon promotion, the new salary for a current, permanent employee is based on Merit Rule 12.2.7. In accordance with this rule, employees are entitled to at least a one-step (5%) salary increase, and may be eligible for advanced step placement in accordance with established criteria.
About the Selection Process
The selection process tentatively consists of of a Scored Training and Experience Evaluation (Pass/Fail).(Click here for more information on the training & experience evaluation process) (Download PDF reader). Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and pass the Training and Experience Evaluation will advance to the Qualifications Appraisal Interview (weighted 100%). Candidates must be successful on all test parts to be placed on the eligibility list. Two separate eligibility lists will be created from this recruitment: one for promotional candidates and one for external candidates. The promotional list will be used first, and must be exhausted before we can hire external candidates to fill vacant positions. The eligibility lists created from this recruitment will be used to fill any vacancies that occur during the six month life of the eligibility lists, including full-time and/or part-time, permanent and/or temporary positions.
Santa Monica College reserves the right to modify the stated test components and weights prior to the administration of any test.

Test Retake Policy
Based on the District's hiring needs, we may administer multiple recruitments for this job classification (or a related job classification that uses the same test(s)) within the next several months. Candidates must wait a period of 90 calendar days between testing appointments before retesting. Candidates who are ineligible to participate in an upcoming test or interview due to the provided retake period will be notified via email, and will have their highest valid score(s) on any non-weighted (pass/fail) test parts applied toward that recruitment.

Examples of Duties
Conducts risk assessments by asking evidence-based questions for students who express suicidal ideation and/or homicidal ideation to keep students and the campus safe.
Provides referrals for basic needs and mental health support in the community by making appointments for the students or providing contact information with students to ensure continuity of care.
Keeps detailed records of student interactions, appointments, assessments, and follow ups in a secure platform to facilitate continuity of care.
Participates in the onboarding of new Master's in Social Work (MSW) interns for the District, which includes scheduling interviews, conducting orientations, and participating in the development of trainings and materials.
Oversees and trains MSW interns engaged in formal field work assignments required to complete their academic program requirements.
Conducts biopsychosocial assessments using standard questions to evaluate students referred for services to ensure an accurate understanding of a students' experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
Conducts workshops in person and virtually around basic needs and mental health for students, faculty and staff so that they can be better information about resources and how to support students and themselves.
Establishes basic needs and mental health partnerships with community based organizations by reaching out to new organizations, obtaining MOU's, and supporting their co-location on campus to improve access and continuity of care.
Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education Requirement:
Master's in Social Work from a college accredited by the Council on Social Work Education is required.
Experience Requirement:
Two years of professional social work experience following completion of an MSW degree, including case management experience and biopsychosocial assessment. Experience in a college setting, and/or experience supervising social work interns is desirable.
Education/Experience Equivalency:
Experience and/or education of the same kind, level and amount as required in the minimum qualifications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Licensure and/or Certification:
A Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) is preferred.
