General Description:
This position serves as classified administrator with operational oversight of programs and services related to contract education and community services. NOTE: Instructional oversight is not the responsibility of the Director rather the Dean. Under the general direction of an educational administrator, the Director plans, organizes, and coordinates programs and activities related to community education and contract education. Areas of operational and programmatic responsibility include community services, workforce training, contract education and other duties within assigned areas of responsibility. Instructional responsibilities report directly to the Dean, but the Director will coordinateday-to-dayoperationsofprograms.Areasofresponsibilityoftenchange,thusrequiringthe ability to oversee a wide variety of new or changing programs or functions.
Examples of Duties
Representative Duties:
- Coordinates the organization, direction, and planning of a wide variety of contract and community education programs for the District
- Oversee the daily operations and needs of the Merced College Business Resource Center facility
- Supervise lower level program directors and administrative support staff
- Represent Merced College to business and industry organizations in Merced and adjacent counties
- Assist the business community with identifying and addressing workforce training needs that help attract and retain employees.
- Coordinate and manage department budget; review, develop and analyze new programs; facilitate oversight of revenue-generating contract and community education programs
- Assess needs for new programs and services; implement newly developed programs; facilitate their development and implementation in accordance with established approval guidelines and budgets
- Communicate and interpret program objectives and offerings to community members, organizations, college staff and others
- Develop partnerships and sponsorships at the local, regional and state level related to community programs; interact with various business and governmental stakeholders, align campus and community resources and expertise to facilitate these partnerships
- Serve as a member of various District committees and task forces; maintain liaison with other college, District, public and private agencies to assure coordination of activities
- Assist in development and implementation of plans to provide workforce development training to students
- Other related duties as assigned

- Motivate and deal with issues related to economic development and community services and to the needs of students and staff
- Identify and secure new funding streams, create new partnerships and reach out to the community on behalf of the college
- Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture and create a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment. In conducting their duties, staff members shall respect and acknowledge the diversity of students and colleagues.
Typical Qualifications
Required:
Education/Training/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree from an acceptable accredited institution
AND
- One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the assignment.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
License or Certificate
Valid California driver's license or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire date.
