Job Description:

PLUMBER
Performs complex skilled maintenance and repairs to plumbing systems; trouble shoots and repairs water, gas, air, and sewer systems, sump pump, hot water circulation pumps, reverse osmosis systems, and drinking fountains.
Repairs valves, faucets, toilets and orders replacement parts as necessary; maintains and repairs various types of heating units and systems; performs preventive maintenance on plumbing and fire protection sprinkler systems.
Repairs gas leaks, water heaters and special appliances.
Installs new plumbing fixtures including sinks, basins, toilets, drinking fountains, water heaters, dishwashers and other items.
Installs water piping, tap water and sewer mains; repairs of backflow prevention devices; clears sewer and storm drains.
Cuts and threads pipe; packs faucets and repairs water supply, waste, sewage and drainage pipes; cleans drains.
Plans, organizes and lays out assigned tasks; works from blueprints and sketches in the repair of plumbing and sprinkler systems.
Orders supplies and maintains records for completion of work, inventory and ordered materials.
Operates a variety of maintenance-related tools and power equipment related to plumbing.
In addition to the essential functions, the Plumber assists in performing other related skilled maintenance duties as assigned.
SKILLED MAINTENANCE MECHANIC
Performs a variety of maintenance and repair work utilizing the skilled basic trades.
Installs, repairs, services and maintains facilities, systems and equipment as assigned.
Operates a variety of maintenance tools and equipment including trucks, manual and electrical tools; may operate a forklift as required.
Performs inspections of facilities and equipment as directed; reports facilities and equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel and recommends repair work.
Works independently or collaboratively with other trades personnel to complete activities and tasks (e.g., HVAC, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting and locksmith duties).
Maintains a variety of records related to labor, materials and work orders; orders supplies and materials from various vendors according to established procedures; maintains storage areas in clean and orderly condition.
Trains and provides work direction and guidance to others as directed; assists other maintenance personnel as needed.
Communicates with students, staff, instructors, various departments, outside organizations and others, as directed; provides and receives information and assistance related to work activities.
In addition to the essential functions, this position may be responsible for the maintenance of swimming pools, including conducting chemical testing and treatment to maintain proper water balance and sanitation.

Special Requirements:
This position requires a valid drivers license. Incumbent may be required to travel off site for business reasons. All employees driving personal, leased, or district-owned vehicles for District related activities must certify possession of a valid Drivers License. Employees must certify that personal vehicles are covered by automobile insurance as required by California law. (Administrative Procedure 7400, Section 4.0) If selected as a finalist and/or given an offer of employment for this position, you will be required to provide your valid Drivers License information. Human Resources will contact the finalist to obtain this required documentation at that phase of the recruitment.

Special Instructions Summary:
This is a classified position subject to a one-year probationary period. Initial salary placement will be determined by the Office of Human Resources in accordance with Board Policy and is not negotiable. Minimum Qualifications - Experience: One year of experience is equivalent to 12 months of experience at a maximum of 40 hours per week (full time).
