Primary Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Engineering/Physics faculty member to join our department. The successful candidate will teach the engineering curriculum and the calculus-based physics sequence for engineers (Physics 20 - Physics 23), encompassing both lectures and laboratories. In this role, you will contribute to program and curriculum development, collaborate with departmental colleagues on faculty evaluations and innovative teaching methods, and support student success in a dynamic and diverse educational environment.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Teaching, Curriculum, and Program Development: Deliver engaging lectures and laboratory sessions for engineering and physics courses. Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies, applying interactive methods informed by current advances in STEM education research. Build upon our current engineering program to add new curricula and update courses to make use of the new Engineering Fabrication Shop.
  • Student Support and Equity: Employ effective equity practices to support a diverse student population, including underrepresented groups in STEM fields like African American, Latinx, and women students. Advise student clubs and mentor students pursuing STEM disciplines.
  • Assessment and Professional Development: Assess student learning outcomes and analyze data to inform instructional strategies. Participate in faculty evaluations, peer mentoring, and engage in professional development activities to stay abreast of trends in STEM education.
  • Departmental and Institutional Service: Actively participate in departmental meetings, contribute to policy development, and serve on college-wide committees to advance the institution's mission and vision. Collaborate effectively with colleagues on departmental projects and initiatives. Work with College officials and transfer partners to maintain and expand engineering course articulation agreements.
  • Engineering Fabrication Shop Management: Assist in selecting and maintaining shop tools and equipment, develop training workshops, provide mentorship and support to shop users, ensure compliance with safety protocols, and promote a safe learning environment.
  • Strong Communication: Strong communication skills and a proven ability to collaborate with students and colleagues are essential for this role.


Minimum Qualifications


Applicant must meet the minimum qualifications of an Engineering AND Physics faculty discipline at the college. Applicants may qualify for both disciplines by using the qualifications listed below for one discipline and equivalency for the other discipline. If using equivalency, please refer to the listed equivalency instructions at the bottom under "Equivalency Statement."   • Engineering:
    • Possess a Master's degree from an accredited institution in any field of engineering
    • OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry, or geology
    • OR the equivalent (NOTE: A bachelor's in any field of engineering with a professional engineer's license is an alternative qualification for this discipline)
  • Physics:
    • Possess a Master's degree from an accredited institution in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics
    • OR Bachelor's in physics or astronomy AND Master's in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics
    • OR the equivalent
  • Must have evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the socio-economic, academic, cultural and ethnic diversity within the community college student population, including students for whom English is not their first language, first generation college students, and students with physical and/or learning disabilities as these factors relate to differences in learning styles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching Experience:
    • Experience teaching college-level engineering and physics lectures and laboratories, particularly freshman/sophomore level engineering courses and calculus-based physics for engineers.
    • Experience developing innovative strategies for teaching entry-level STEM students, and in particular engineering students.
  • Commitment to Equity and Inclusion:
    • Demonstrated experience implementing equity practices that improve outcomes for underrepresented populations in STEM.
  • Professional Engagement:
    • Recent participation in professional development programs or postgraduate degree programs aimed at enhancing teaching effectiveness and student support.
    • Involvement in service-related activities, such as committee work or community outreach and engagement, to advance departmental or institutional missions.
  • Subject Matter Expertise:
    • Knowledge of current advances in STEM education research and experience applying interactive teaching methods.
    • Advanced education or experience in areas such as robotics, mechatronics, surveying, or chemical engineering.
    • Experience with engineering software and programming. This may include experience with computer-aided design software (e.g. SOLIDWORKS) or programming language(s) (e.g. MATLAB, python).
    • Experience with engineering hardware. This may include experience with fabrication tools (e.g. table saw, band saw), electronics instrumentation (e.g. oscilloscope), or engineering testing and measuring instrumentation (e.g. tensile tester, theodolite).
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Strong ability to communicate effectively with college students and colleagues.
    • Proven track record of successful collaborative efforts in academic settings.

Pay Philosophy

Starting salaries for Full-Time Faculty are based on a combination of experience (step) and educational (group) achievement. Initial placement is within the starting salary range and a minimum of step 5 within the applicable group. Further advancements are based on longevity and educational growth.

FT Faculty Salary Schedule

This advertised salary range is based on the contracted regular semesters (Fall and Spring). Intersessions (Winter and/or Summer), additional teaching load, and/or substitute teaching may result in increased earning potential.
