DESCRIPTION

West Los Angeles College (WLAC) is accepting applications for .67 adjunct assignment (maximum of 23 hours per week) for WLAC's College and Career Preparation Division Strong Workforce Noncredit Initiative. The goal of the Strong Workforce Noncredit Initiative is to expand the availability of quality community college noncredit career technical education and workforce development courses, programs, pathways, credentials, certificates, and degrees. This noncredit project will seek to increase noncredit enrollment and program completion to address gaps such as high unemployment and unmet regional needs of underrepresented populations in need of short-term training. Funding Available July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025 (Annual assignment subject to renewal and funding).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Dean of Academic Affairs & Adult Education, the Strong Workforce Coordinator- Noncredit Program will be responsible for developing the Strong Workforce Noncredit Initiative - coordination, curriculum and instruction, pathways, articulation, marketing, partnerships, and other duties assigned.

  • Coordinate the Strong Workforce Initiative Noncredit Program with emphasis on curriculum and instructional services and implementation.

  • Work directly with the Dean of Academic Affairs & Adult Education and Adult Ed. coordinators on program pathways - curriculum and instruction.

  • Keep current with trends in curriculum and instruction, and provide overall leadership to faculty and industry advisors in developing and evaluating curriculum and selecting instructional materials.

  • Participate in Strong Workforce Advisory Committees to ensure curriculum, working environments, and pathways meet the industry standards.

  • Collaborate with WLAC credit departments, Los Angeles Community College Districts/Colleges (LACCD), and other post-secondary institutions on curriculum and articulation.

  • Collaborate with campus and District marketing in the development of materials to promote Strong Workforce Noncredit programs, activities, and events.

  • Coordinate and meet with industry partner leads from workforce/industry sectors to create course and certificate offerings.

  • Coordinate with SWF regional partner lead to complete WLAC Noncredit SWF regional plan, outcomes, and other SWF regional initiative deliverables.

  • Perform other duties as required and related to the overall success of the Strong Workforce Noncredit Initiative.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree from an accredited college or university that allows the individual to teach any discipline offered at WLAC. Professional or occupational experience must be reasonably related to the instructional assignment.

  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum one-year experience teaching in a noncredit vocational/CTE discipline in a noncredit adult education program or CTE department at a community college.

  • Ability to develop, organize, motivate, and coordinate groups across the organization.

  • Ability to communicate effectively to various audiences both in writing and verbally.

  • Experience in vocational, career and technical education programs including curriculum development, planning, career development, labor analysis, and State and Federal initiatives.

  • Experience in an administrative, management or coordinator position, preferably at a community college.

  • Knowledge of community college programs and educational pathways.

  • Interest in the principles of Guided Pathways.

  • Excellent computer skills especially MS 365, learning management platforms, MIS data, dashboards, marketing materials, social media, and webpage updates.

  • Demonstrated success in curriculum development, instructional technology, and shared governance.

  • Experience in working on a campus with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty, staff, and students and a demonstrated commitment to cultural competence within an academic setting.

    SELECTION PROCEDURES:

    1. A selection committee with representation from the administration, academic senate, and faculty guild will review all completed and approved applications received. The committee screening will involve an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications in the areas of training, experience, and personal fitness as determined from the application package.

    2. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview with the selection committee following the committee screening.

    The name of a finalist will be forwarded by the selection committee to the college president for final approval and appointment to the position.
